April 26, 201412 yr In the product description for the Samsung 840 Evo series I read that they are up to three times faster than the old 840 series. Since I have only Samsung 840 on my current system I wonder if getting a Evo would significantly increase speed compared to what I have now? Anybody here who have used both the old 840 and the new 840 Evo?
April 26, 201412 yr No doubt the EVO's are EXTREMELY quick! startup time in W7 for me is less than 7 seconds, W8.1 roughly 5 seconds. I do believe however the 840 Pro series are quicker?
April 26, 201412 yr From the time you power on to loaded in windows is only 7 sec? Wow... Takes me a minute or two to fully load all the desktop icons. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 27, 201412 yr Except for the amount of time it takes to load Windows to the desktop I doubt that you would be able to see any difference. I sure doubt that you would be able to see any difference in FSX. Benchmarks like AS SSD would show a difference, but I do not think that you would see an actual difference in any programs that you run unless you do something like video encoding and what you are encoding takes an hour to complete. In a case like that you might actually see a time difference in the amount of time it takes if you were doing everything on the EVO SSD.

According to the product description random read 4K differs by 2000 iops (98000 100000). The most important difference seem to be 5 year warranty instead of 3 years. And a significantly higher price. From the time you power on to loaded in windows is only 7 sec? Wow... Takes me a minute or two to fully load all the desktop icons. For me it takes less than 30 seconds on my FSX rig. A little bit more on my older rig. But both from SSD and Win 7 Home Premium
