Hey Don, do you have an add-in Sound card or on-motherboard sound chip? Or both?

omg it works sound lod=1 sound quality =2 changed  FSX config.  Just finished a 12 hour flight from SCCI to KAUS and no screen freezes.  yesterday I tried the same flight and had 5 screen freezes at 9 minutes each so I aborted the flight.

I am a happy pilot.  Thanks for the help.

Cheers,

Don Emerson

Do mean that you have set sound_lod=1 and sound_quality=1 ??

So I was experience the same freezes and crashes... I remember when i first got it it was fine.. Then I remember I did some little tweaking because I read the  computer system bible by Nick.. Well I remember changing my performance so I decided to revert back so I went to my computer - properties - advance system settings - then advance tab then go to performance setting and then click on let window choose the best for my computer... apply and press ok and your set.. Since I done that today I done 6 flight with the 777 and no freezing or crashes at all.. Everything is back to normal with the 777... I figure ill pass the word out in case anyone else did the same tweak...

Just want to pass the word since 4 days ago i did what i stated above I haven't had any freezes or crashes with the 777 and i been flying lot of multiple different flight long and short... So that work for me...

both solutions make sence to me.

I have said before that I suspect that we are just asking too much from our systems.

In my case, as long as I reduce something, the freezes stop.

I can either reduce AI traffic, or move utility software away from core 0 , etc and the freezes stopped.

Reducing terrain setting also reduces the load on core 0.

Changing power settings can also reduce the load on core 0.

I think that the key is reducing the load on core 0 and that would explain why there are so many different solutions for the freezes.

Pardon my ignorance, but how do I do that?

Edit: Ok, so you just uncheck core 0 thru the process task manager. Easy enough.

Hi,

I am not familiar with multi-CPU management...

For example this is what I have when I launch ASN:

ASN_core.png

I tried to right click on the ASNext.exe process but I did not see anything to uncheck Core 0 for ASN?

You right click the process and then I believe it's under "affinity".

yep....let us know if it helped you any!

Rob, I actually think it made the "job" a little easier on FSX. Just had a couple of quick runs with the NGX. Haven't been pestered with the 8 minute freeze in the NGX, but the whole sim immediately felt a lot smoother. Frame rates also went up. I kid you not!

Next is to experiment with the 777.

Yes, "affinity" indeed. Thanks.

Otherwise I tried SOUND_QUALITY=1 and I did not notice a significant fps improvement. On the other side, I did not notice either a significant drop in sound quality.

Cool....lets hope further testing confirms those initial findings, like it did in my case.
