June 16, 201411 yr Guys, I have been using the trial version since 6/11 testing every day with various aircraft in my hanger. I started with v6.34 which was the trial download. That was problematic for me and then I saw posts here about v6.2 and switched to that. It has been much better using that but I still have issues that concern me (considering the cost of this product). I had a fatal error today that shut down Vox completely at cruise. I was able to get it started up again after cycling to disable and back to enable. I have done the training for both the Win7 speech recognition and the Vox flight training four times already hoping it would improve the recognition. I also did three specific flight plan training but still have issues with voice recognition. I use a headset with mic and all will be working fine but then suddenly the controller will restate the instructions again and again (4-5 times) before it accepts what I said. Today's flight did this twice; once at "taxi instruction readback" and next for "heading & altitude read back". I have also had 3 flights using the Vox training flights where the controller took me off runway 32L to the right, then the ground controller brought me right back to cross that runway and then routed me right back to the other side of the same runway again to park. Is this kind of activity normal for Vox? Will the voice recognition continue to improve as I do more flights or is this the best I can expect? I have about 7 flights (including the Vox training ones) with Vox so far. I am also having a challenge with the quality of the voices. I got all the voices provided by VoxPop and are using those for my test flights. I believe I saw somewhere that online voices can be purchased that are an improvement over these VoxPop ones. I would like some specifics about those if you know of them; what to buy, where to get them and how much? I hope your input will help me decide whether this program is worth the money for me. Thanks for any information you can provide. Jerry Jerry Hayman
June 16, 201411 yr Ivona voices are IMO the best. I have Sally and she sounds eerily real. +1 I never get sick of her voice even after a year ZORAN
June 16, 201411 yr Hey Jerry, I'm somewhere in the wheelhouse (or flight deck) with you. I differ in that I bought in early and have been enjoying the paid version of 6.2 for quite some time now - setting aside 6.34 for a bit until Tegwyn can work out some of the latest bugs. Yes - it has the issues you mentioned - many that I too have experienced, but still the best interactive ATC that I know of. Tegwyn had been good about responding to issues until his attention was refocused on the new version and its issues. I've stopped bothering him so that he can work on improving the latest version before I try it again. I would like to see interaction on this forum so that users might be able to help each other on troubleshooting issues that have answers already. As for your various errors - some I have ideas about and others not. I have the logging utility that Teqwyn sent to help ID error problems. My personal experience is that airport changes that disagree with VoxAtc understanding - through Level-D Navigraph updates etc. can cause these errors. Also - I use UT2 with the bridge for Voxatc, so errors ranged from runway approach errors to missing runways (the new ones at KMSP), that my scenery didn't have but Navigraph expected. Understand that the Voxatc AI will also throw errors during taxi that seem random because it's only when they go to certain areas that the airport and Vox can't agree upon. That said - it kind of gives an idea of the complexity involved - and an appreciation of what does work. My only suggestion to Tegwyn from a programmer's view (which I've done a very little of) would be a more graceful end to the many "fatal errors". While I like the "not possible at this time" or whatever the message verbiage is, it needs to be expanded and improved upon in the error handling - such as alternate taxi, approach, runway - or what ever options might continue the flow more seamlessly.
