I have my AffinityMask set to 14. What is the difference in changing it to other values? I've seen many people have other values than me.

The reason I ask is due to the 8 minute freeze. I had freezes for a long time. But when I added affinitymask 14, it solved the whole thing. No freezes for almost 6 months. Last night I hade some freezes again. May it help to change the AffinityMask to some other value?

This tweak, on a quad core, moves the FSX onto the Core1 (2nd core), to basically split fibers and main thread. It is good because Windows is usually having its processes on the Core0, so moving to Core1 is giving FSX more breathing space. It is also sacrificing one texture thread, since all that comes after Main Thread are Texture Threads. This means FSX is running with Core0 – Fibers, Core1 – Main Thread, Core2+3 – Texture Threads. That’s OK like that.

What kind of processor have you got?

 

14 is indeed good for quad cpu's with no Hyperthreading.

On my 2600k I turned off Hyper threating in the bios for best results and then use 14. 

I have the same PC as you and turned ht in with an af=255, works great.

I'm running Fsx with AffinityMask 14 and Hyperthread on. I will try to run it with Hyperthread off. What's the difference between HT off or on when running Fsx? Will I see any difference in performance?
