AP Disc Scheme Options

Featured Replies

I noticed there are now 3 options listed for "AP DISC SCHEME": 1 Press, 2 Presses, and 2 Presses Unsilenced. Testing them it seems 1 Press disconnects and silences, but both of the 2 Press options appear to behave the same as before where you need to wait the 1.5 seconds or so between presses. What is the difference between the 2 options? I did search the FCOM but did't find anything.

1 press - a single press disconnects the ap silently and cancels the warning without giving off the wailer

2 press - a single press disconnects the ap and allow the wailer to sound while a double press disconnects the autopilot silently without giving off the wailer

2 press unsilenced - a single press disconnects the ap and allows the wailer to sound, a double press disconnects the ap and allows the wailer to sound for a short time.

Yea, I read the introduction manual, but still options 2 and 3 seem the same to me, when I tried it. What's the most realistic option?

All 3 are realistic, it just depends on the airline.

In option 2) the wailer won't sound if you quickly press the AP disconnect two times.

In option 3) the wailer will sound if you quickly press the AP disconnect two times, for a short time.

2 & 3 are not the same.  Option 3 would generally be the option used.  I can remember from a very long time ago that crew would double click for a silent disconnect (on the 744)  For obvious reasons airlines were not happy with the flight crew doing this.

My memory is a bit hazy but I'm sure you could find the info if you searched online. bottom line is Boeing must have added an additional option (3) to prevent flight crew doing this.

Thanks, that's how I thought it was intended. When I was testing this yesterday I couldn't get the 2 presses in fast enough with my joystick button for option 2. Using the key command works, so I do see the difference now.
