Wxr Radar

I'm sorry guys, this has probably been asked a million times before... I can't get the radar to display anything. I'm using the SP1, in the FMC it says 1.1 and using ASN.

Is there something that needs to be done besides installing SP1 or an additional plugin that needs to be downloaded?

the weather radar isnt a cloud radar it will only show precipitation and / or depending on  mode turbulence within that precipitation.

You need to make sure you are at a place where there is rain etc.

Hope that helps

yeah, that's what I thought. Just checking to make sure I did everything right. Thanks!

Sorry to ask the obvious, but you need to turn on the radar using the glareshield button WXR. It's found along with the other buttons for the ND display, such as airport, data, position.

And yes, you need to be near rain-producing clouds. Even then the default settings for the radar filter out light precipitation and only show heavier rainfall amounts. You can go hunting for bad weather on live atc website. They have a tab on the left for "bad weather areas" It shows both radar map for bad weather airports and the METARS. You're looking for great gobs of green and METARS that indicate RA+ or TSRA or CBs for heavy rain / thunder showers / thunder clouds.

Hope you get it working. It's pretty cool.

Nope.  Just remember that weather radar needs to be looking at something to return something.  This something must be precipitation-sized objects, and not just clouds.

If you are sure that you should have been seeing radar returns because of precipitation, then there is a stickeyed troubleshooting thread in the PMDG General forum (always look for stickeys  ): http://forum.avsim.net/topic/447168-weather-radar-troubleshooting/

Got it guys, working perfectly... absolutely awesome, this is a new not only for PMDG but for FSX also to actually track the radar and fly through precipitation as the radar depicts, ultra realistic.

Yeah - it's some good stuff.  Definitely adds to the experience!

Yeah, it's a great feature, especially having to pick your way around cells. (And sometimes fun to throw good airmanship out the window and fly right through the bright red patches).
