August 4, 201411 yr With over 30,000 lakes in Florida and over 200 GA airports (public and private), the Icon would be a perfect a/c for this state. Neat video. It would be interesting to get some time in one. Thank you. August 5, 201411 yr After watching some of the videos I looked around above and behind the seats. Sure enough I found the ballistic parachute handle with its dire warnings. Also the wing locking pins, circuit breakers and the fuel shot off. Even the canopy locking handle, wow, never noticed before. After a little flight test I found that take off and landing speeds are both 45 knts, just like the real thing. Very difficult to get the AOA out of the green ark even in a hard 90 degree turn. The Icon will hold altitude at 50 knts and will land on it's own with power to idle and OAO in the red with a stable 1,000 ft per min rate of decent. Very good modeling all around. To bad the devs did not have more time with it. The chute deployment would have been cool. I am so easily entertained! Steve I forgot a couple more pics.
August 5, 201411 yr Author Nice! I remember when the Icon was first revealed for Flight, and the reaction was....... less than thrilled. many couldn't believe it was a real plane, and many "car" jokes ensued. Now, after some time to get use to the idea, we find its quite a nice and fun little craft! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. August 5, 201411 yr I always thought it was the perfect airplane, but that market (Florida) is already saturated and there are other seaplanes for a lot less money. And this recreational plane would probably not have a lot of takers in Alaska, and those are, I think, the only two seaplane markets in all the world. Icon claims over a thousand delivery positions, but those are just fully-refundable $5000 deposits. How many will now decide to shell out the remaining $200 000? I have a hard time believing it will be a lot, given what has happened to the economy in the last few years. But, I wish Icon a lot of luck and hope it works out for them. I, too, had noticed the inoperational overhead panel, but missed the parachute deployment lever. Got to check that out. Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
