April 1, 200521 yr Thanks Ulf. All messages at the forum have stopped. DOn't knowif it's because last patch went right with almost everyone orif it's because they all moved to a manual install. Anyway....you're right,, what remains... Is one of the most beautifulsceneries ever seen.FOR YOUR INFORMATION. You'd better not to forget us... there is still more to come... at least one project more.. which has started right yesterday in couple with a new update for La Palma(no more HOT FIXES =P),,, it's a texture replacement for someareas... Remember the airport boundaries with hi-detail textures???Well.. expect a few more areas with that kind of detail! And it'llbe on May bundle and Raw edition packages. Just as a gift to you and everyone out there because of this first bad begining.Stay tuned. By the way.. this experience tells me that we'll needmore betatesters that before. Could I contact you for the futureprojects betatesting?!Luis. Canarysim
April 1, 200521 yr Luis,Wow - more to come! Sure, I'll be happy to help you out with my 'freak' FS9 setup ;-) Ulf
April 2, 200521 yr I have a keen interest in Canaries scenery but when I saw this long thread getting longer I initially refrained from downloading this addon. I'm not a fan of auto installers, I like to know what is going where, but I went ahead anyway but fell at the first hurdle when the installer wouldn't let me browse to my preferred addon scenery location. So I gave up but have now seen the post on doing a manual install, followed the instructions and all is well. Compared to some other sceneries I have installed the manual method for this one is not all that complicated so perhaps it would have assisted if this had been made an option at the outset.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." April 4, 200521 yr Thanks for information Bruce. On May everyone will be ableto choose what suits him/her better. A configurator edition...or a RAW FILES + information edition.I DO KNOW It's not so difficult to install it manually. In factI've had to do it lots of times and it soooo easy =P BUT....as well as there are people out there like you (and ME, yesss...I confess!!) who prefer to do a manual install to keep everything under control,, there are others who prefeer to click over a buttonan have everything set. Just keep in mind those 50-60 year old FS fans who don't want to know anything about computers..but just flying... how can you tell them go here... go there.. renamethis file.. (sometimes hard to find if you don't go slowly and withglasses). I did this program because of them. But there was somethingwhich went wrong.. and three hours before release I couldn't considerall cases for a rebuilt version of the configurator. So... the mistakesappeared. After three days of work.. I finally made the update.exe workfine... so I released the FIX 2. The configurator_uk filehas an small bug (those famous error messages..) but I won't be able to change them till I go back to La Palma to rebuild a littlebit of source code. Anyway.. it doesn't affect the work of updatingand reestructuring the scenery.cfg in the right way.So.. for all you guys who have a DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS foldertranslated into a different languaje.. (German for example)are the ones who will get the messages. They appear becauseit's necesary to find the FS9.cfg file to modify the TERRAINMAX VERTEX LEVEL entry. On my system (spanish edition) the DOCUMENT AND SETTINGS FOLDER was placed in english.. so I thougheveryone had it also in english.. I went wrong as i've been ableso se.. But please.. forget those error messages, they don't affectthe update process.Hope this could help. For more questions.. email meLuis. Canarysim. ([email protected])
April 4, 200521 yr I appreciate your efforts with this scenery Luis but being a 59 year old myself I guess I must be an exception to the rule. Having just installed some scenery developed by some hard working folk in New Zealand for the Christchurch Canterbury Plains area installing your's manualy was a breeze.I have only one problem with this scenery which has been raised in another thread - the flashing textures at the airport, Changing the maximum vertices to 21 as recommended in one post does not fix this for me.Bruceb Bruce Bartlett Frodo: "I wish none of this had happened." April 4, 200521 yr Hummph!!I was 52 years old when we got our first computer. Prior to that, I couldn't turn one on! Since FS98, I have been designing my own scenery, most of which has been posted to Avsim and flightsim.com, along with other little fixes I've created for specific glitches. I'm on my 4th computer, which I built from parts ordered on-line last June and this past August, I turned 60. I do my own system installs, troubleshoot computer problems when they arise, and repair as required. I am often asked for advice when others experience problems or have general queries; even those who have more computer-savvy years under their belt.I accomplished this through diligent reading and asking pertinent questions of my own and although I make no claim of being an expert, I am quite comfortable around a PC, including integrity with respect to security and don't flinch when it comes to investigating; in other words, mainly self-taught.And, in case you haven't caught on yet, I have no use for self installers, but prefer to put things where they belong on my own terms; so please don't create these things on my account!
April 5, 200521 yr mmmm I guess you misunderstood me guys.Don't get embarrased about my last comment, I wasn't talking about everyone which was 50 or 60 y/o but believe me... there is a lot of people (not necessary of that age,, but thereare..) who prefer an automatic installer because they just wantto make a click ... and get everything set, and this is notsaid by me with no knowledge, I was told this by a 50 y/o manwho said there is a lot of people out there who prefeer it at the easy way.I don't understand why you get "angry" (or did it seem to me?) ... If you know how to do a manual install,, it's obvious that I'mnot talking about you.. you really shouldn't feel bad... emmmm umm Idon't understand your reaction... it's maybe because of the age??? In that case you also should be wise enough to understand that it'snot neccesary to keep on talking about this because it's stupid. Weare loosing time and we could spend it into other productive things.Keep on flying!!!Luis. CanarySim
April 5, 200521 yr Luis,Thanks again for your scenery. It took me like 2-3 times but the installer finally worked and once I made the necessary modification to FS9.cfg the texture flashing disapppeared. One comment. I was never big fan of photo-real sceneries since what bothers me is the boundary between the regular Microsoft scenery and the photo-real one. But nothing lends itself so naturally to photo-real implementation as individual islands. Therefore I really wanted to install and experience your La Palma. So please continue with your excellent work and give us more ... islands. ;-)Michael J.WinXP-Home SP2,AMD64 3500+,Abit AV8,Radeon X800Pro,36GB Raptor,1GB PC3200,Audigy 2 Michael J.
April 6, 200521 yr Michael:Want more islands?? Well.. as our "Company name" says.. we'll giveyou the best of canary islands... and you'll have it!BTW Just some information....We've got a TIFF file of 35000x35000 pixels, about 2 gigabytesof hard disk. And IT'S NOT FROM LA PALMA!!!! =PNew things in project guys... (well,, in fact.. we already are set into a new project). But we want to wait a little untilthe release of FS2006, we really don't know if we'll be ableto work with more resolution than the one we used for La Palma...but the puzzle has been arranged. We've got another beautiful MAPof.... one of the Canaries..You'll hear more news from us within the next three-four months.Luis. CanarySim
April 6, 200521 yr Just a couple comments about this thread / the scenery and FS in general.First, thanks a lot Luis for coming on here and working with people. That's better customer service than a lot of payware companies provide. Everyone owes you and your team a big THANK YOU !!Second, get used to installers guys - the days of dumping all the files in one folder and putting them in addon scenery disappeared the day FS2004 hit the streets.Microsoft is using a complex layer / order scheme which will only become more stringent in the requirements that files go in several different specific folders.Personally I do not like scenery which changes any of the default files - I believe there are ways built into FS2004 to accomplish the same thing - but it takes a lot of detailed work to find the right folder for the file. The basic problem with changing the default files is that there is so much data and so many areas covered that it's difficult not to get a decompler error and messup a different airport / island / area. I will test this scenery and decide if it is acceptable.Manual install instructions are going to be very complex but the great value of an installer will be the ability to update, modify or remove a scenery. If you do a manual install you will someday be saying "Now - how many files went into SceneryAfricScenery and how many into SceneryGenericScenery and how many into SceneryWorldScenery and how many into Addon SceneryScenery and how many into the actual scenery folder. Oh, and where are the originals or specially modified files for SimWings to restore things."
