September 7, 201411 yr Seems like flying an ILS approach in a default aircraft such as a learner is impossible due to the extra sensitive localizer reading. Unless you get a 15-20 degree intercept, even with a hard bank turn you're going through the localizer. Pay ware aircraft I've flown don't do this. I've even tried the approach button on autopilot and the plane is making s turns to get on the approach because its needle is so sensitive. Is there an adjustment for this in the. Cfg? Such as a learjet * Such as a learjet *
September 8, 201411 yr The closer you get to the antenna at the airport the more sensitive it is, try intercepting 10 miles or so out, its the same in the 'real' world. Jay
September 8, 201411 yr Author I've tried...I've taken vectors on 15 mile final and still had issues blowing through on a 30 degree intercept. Is actually this simulated in fsx as far as distance from antenna?
September 8, 201411 yr Sounds like maybe your speed is too high? What plane and how fast are you on the intercept? Jay
September 8, 201411 yr All planes with default AP logic fly through the localizer and correct I've not found one that's realistic of course excluding payware | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 8, 201411 yr Author Thats what I am seeing. Payware aircraft have been fine, its not like I got on fsx yesterday and am trying my first approaches here. Even at 180 knots the aircraft is not picking up the localizer until it is to late. Default 737-800 and LJ45
September 8, 201411 yr In some quick testing the default 737 and Baron seem OK but the Learjet and Airbus aren't. scott s. .
September 9, 201411 yr 99% of the time it's either intercepting too close or too fast, too steep an angle, or all three. Can you post/link to a video where you are having the problem? Or at least a screen shot? Jay
September 9, 201411 yr Disagree PIC.... I'm an ATC and I frequently vector aircraft doing 200-300 kts (ground speed of course) onto final. If you do this in FSX with default planes you will go through the loc/ radial Try 120-160 kias for jets (although 120 is usually to slow for larger jets) 30 deg is FAA standard, 3-5mi from the IAF(usually the marker) | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 9, 201411 yr 200kts far enough out I can see... but what approach would you be sending them to at 300kts? Color me skeptical Jay
September 9, 201411 yr Author Thanks Ryan. I am also an air traffic controller in the US and I do this daily no issues at all however, I am not a pilot so I can't argue that side, but there's definitely an issue with default planes. Common sense being used here im not trying to turn on at the marker at 250 knots. Pay ware aircraft I use are fine. Its really just the display of the localizer in these aircraft not the localizer itself. PIC, I control at an airport in mountainous terrain and its not uncommon to clear an aircraft for an approach at 280-300 knots, but that's up at 6-8000 MSL. The field elevation of the main airport is 1500 and aircraft will never be at 300 knots turned on to final. Anywhere from 170-260 for jets depending on how aggressive the pilot is.
September 9, 201411 yr 200kts far enough out I can see... but what approach would you be sending them to at 300kts? Color me skeptical F-16's.... We get that a lot - "but planes go 250 under 10" haha The point I'm trying to make is that FSX planes will blow through final unless around 100 kts... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
September 9, 201411 yr The point I'm trying to make is that FSX planes will blow through final unless around 100 kts I have never had the problem in FSX but then again I dont fly the default planes much. I'll give the Lear a shot later today and see what happens. Jay
September 9, 201411 yr Author Long story short...the default learjet is not where it should be in that category and I just wanna know if there's a way to modify it....
