I'm thinking of an eventual mobo and chip replacement as part of a system upgrade, but I'm wondering will this mean I need to get new licenses for all my fs software (and p3d) because it will be considered a new system?

Highly unlikely. I've done plenty of big hardware upgrades over the years and have never had to repurchase any of my FS addons.

I'm assuming if you can get the OS booted up using the new mobo on your old hard drive, there shoud be no reinstall required...here's hoping anyway (that's the route I may take in the next few months).
