IFLY 747-400 On Three Monitors

Featured Replies

I was following the last topic on this new release, but when I accessed my email and saw 100 odd emails in a day guessed something had gone south with it which is a shame.

I have always wanted a good 747 (  I use Air Hauler so was building my company up so I could buy one, cant quite afford it yet in Air Hauler!)

Has anyone who purchased it used it on a 3 monitor setup?  ie any problems with the spinning cursor issue on any of the 2d panels?

All the videos on it so far on utube seem to be the 2004 version and are very positive which is nice.

Look forward to any comments from anyone who has purchasaed it as to what you  think.

Thanks a lot

Steve

I purchased it and like it very much.  I don't use 3 monitors.  Just one big 60" monitor, which is a flat-screen LCD TV.

Also I never use 2D popups, except for the CDU, which works great.

The aircraft looks really good.  I actually loaded up my old PMDG 747 to make a comparison flight, and the iFly looks sooo much better, with its up-to-date textures.  Details and labels are clear and sharp everywhere.

I need to do some more flying in both of them, to compare the flight characteristics, but I really like the heavy feel that the iFly744 has.  Hand flying and manual landings are a pleasure.

I'm really enjoying the iFly 744, and especially now that it is supported with FSIPanel.

I'm sure that when PMDG releases the v.2 of its 747, that will be another step up, but for now, THIS is MY 747.

I run it on 3 monitors and if you cycle through all the panel views you will get a spinning cursor and reduced frame rates (at least I do running Nvidia surround).  Only one window causes it and if you avoid that window you won't have the problem.  I posted on their forums and they said they would look into it but no response yet.  My computer is being repaired but when it comes back I will experiment to see if I can fix it which I have done before with other aircraft.  If I do I will post the fix.

Thank you very tempted!

Thanks Todd which view was it ? Sometimes it's just a matter of changing a panel setting size from 1.0 to 0.33

I don't have this 747 but for those of you using NVIDIA Surround there is an easy fix for the spinning cursor for 2D panels and pop up windows. You need to go into the panel.cfg and find the brackets for the windows such as [Window00], [Window01] and so on. Within each window you'll see a line that says size_mm=1280,960 or whatever that window size may be. All you need to do is add a line right under the size_mm= line that says pixel_size=1280,960. That pixel size line is what will resize the window properly and not cause the spinning cursor.

So what ever the resolution size of the size_mm= numbers are, copy those into the new line you add pixel_size=.

It should look like this

[Window02]

file=CSDC9 - Overhead Upper.bmp

size_mm=1280,731

pixel_size=1280,731

window_size_ratio=1.000

position=0

visible=0

ident=10100

zorder=30

Do that for every [WindowXX] and you should be good to go. It should only take you a few minutes for every aircraft you fly.

Is it done yet? When will it be released? Will it be freeware or payware? How much will it cost? Any updates on the progress? Will it work for Xbox? Can I be a beta tester? How's the performance in VR?

That is what I have done in the past with the exception that I only do it for the offending window that causes the cursor to spin.  Never did it for all of them.  With that said I am constantly resizing pop ups such as CDU's, HSI's and ND's when I first load a panel.  If I change all the widows as you suggest will that still be required?  Any thoughts much appreciated.  Thanks!

Thanks for that pixel tip , will try that with a few pesky ones I havent managed to solve.

This has worked for me on some of them in the panel.cfg

window_size= 0.333, 1.000

window_pos= 0.333, 0.000

Unfortunatly its trial and error , like you I also resize any I use at the start of the flight.

Just wish developers would include a multi monitor panel.cfg as a matter of course with option to use it if you want at the instal stage.

When I first started in flight sim it drove me nuts !

There are also some older products that won't display a VC at all with 3 monitors.

Cheers

Steve
