May 10, 200521 yr I'm still confused about these two modes: last time I tried (months ago, before some re-installs) windowed mode, I had a dramatic increase in FPS. Sure, the window decorations are ugly, but sometimes the additional FPS may be worth it.Someone wrote here that there's no difference between the two modes, the graphics adapter delivers full power in either mode. I read in the past that only full screen mode enables the 3D capabilities of the adapter, so I'm puzzled now...Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. May 10, 200521 yr For the best eye candy, you need to be in full screen mode. It is correct that the full screen mode enables the 3d capabilities of your video card but you'll suffer some loss of FPS. You'll get a dramatic increase in FPS in windowed mode. Jim
May 10, 200521 yr But on my system, I only get an FPS increase in windowed mode, when the window is not larger than approx half the size of the screen. If the window fills the whole screen, then I definitely get less fps in windowed mode than in full screen mode.WolfgangP4 2.4 Ghz512 MB SD DDRWin XP Pro SP2ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MB
May 10, 200521 yr I've run both quite a bit, I use fullscreen now. You don't need to run full screen for full effects, that was true for previous versions of the sim but not this one, or perhaps it's the new video cards that changed that, but either way you can get full 3d acceleration in windowed mode.
May 10, 200521 yr true - it was older gen video cards that this applied to - I for one get the exact same performance in either mode - so byebye window and happy riddance as some rural Jamaicans would say.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256 Regards, Mark
May 10, 200521 yr I used both fullscreen and windowed mode, now i only use windowed mode, makes it easier to work with other things while flying. Theres no difference at all in FPS or picture quality.OHN
May 10, 200521 yr How can I check in which mode my video adapter is, i.e. how can I be sure I get all the bells and whistles in windowed mode as well?Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. Respice, lector: In nihil ab nihilo quam cito recidimus.
May 10, 200521 yr Andreas Any video card that is not more than 3-4 years old works exactly the same whether fullscreen or windowed. If you have one of the older ones that only utilizes 3D mode when in fullscreen you'd know it as as the windowed mode looks like a glittery slideshow. What kind of a video card do you have?Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage. May 10, 200521 yr The only problem that I have with full mode is the long delay (about 2 minutes) for FSNavigator to load, whereas in window mode it loads very quicklySo I switch first in window mode load FSNavigator and then back to full mode. Looks much better.Stelios Stelios Christofides
May 10, 200521 yr Thanks to David and others for setting me straight. I was thinking of the "old" days with the older video cards. I didn't realize things changed with the newer cards. Learn something new every day!Jim
