MD-11 appears to work in FSX-Steam Edition

Recommended Posts

Jim, you are right. It's a simconnect problem but it's not necessary ton install all three simconnect version, but only this one:

YOUR HARD DRIVE:\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FSX\SDK\Core Utilities Kit\SimConnect SDK\LegacyInterfaces\FSX-XPACK

10.0.61259

I suppose this version of Simconnect is the Acceleration Pack version and it's the same provided with the latest update from EZCA in the ZIP file, this version is mandatory for proper working of EZCA.

So two targets in one shot :-)

Yes, the XPACK version is the one from SP2/Acceleration. Probably the great majority of FSX add-ons will use this version.

I recently build a new Haswell machine, and figured I might make it easy on myself and

buy SE. It has 8.1 Pro on it, and after the OS install I just installed FSX-SE, then I installed

the MD11 and 747.

Now, its true that it MOSTLY seems to work, but I ran into something funny that made me

suspicious. I was doing a night flight, and as I started to set things up I went to hit the DOME

light and it didn't work, odd because other lighting worked.

I also find that SE is prone to those random sim crashes that I so hated and had finally gotten

rid of over a few years on Win 7. SOOO, much as I hated taking the time, I completely uninstalled

Steam and FSX-SE, and reinstalled FSX Gold, and then the MD-11 again.... you guessed it,

the DOME light worked fine :), and at least so far no crashes.

I'm reporting this so PMDG and anyone else with the MD-11 can check it out. I do believe that SE

is better performing due to the recompile and all.... but something is not completely stable here

and nothing drives me more crazy than an 8+ hour long haul that crashes in the last hour :(

Here's hoping it can all be sorted out...

Are you sure that problem was not due to win 8.1?

Dome light is working in mine. It is a Win7/64 installation.

I don't see how it could be an 8.1 issue, because FSX Gold installed on it

worked fine. It is interesting that it worked on 7 though Jim.

Do you have anything changed in the SE install, I did nothing, just installed

it, no tweeks or changes?? Oh wait, the one thing i did was update simconnect

from the SDK.

Jim thanks for reply, maddog work great on a clean alone FSX-SE installation.

I can't get Md-11 working on the same machine, clean FSX-SE alone, but all screen and CDU are blacks, no countdown initialization. Any help?

all versions of simconnect need to be active on your pc, i think there's 4 or 5 versions.

I also went through a complete uninstall of FSX Gold and SE, then made sure everything was

cleaned up. Finally went back to FSX-SE, this time did all the simconnect installs, and finally

installed the MD11, 747, and the 777. The MD11 Dome now works, as well as the 777 :)

Could be it was just that I had installed one of the simconnects, not sure.

Can you kindly tell me where these SimConnects are located and how do I get them all active? Thank you.

Thanks for that,Peter. Just an hour or so ago, I found another related post and managed to get those SimConnects initialised.

Happy Australia Day.

Just tried to install the MD-11 off the DVD disk I have, after having uninstalled it from the FSX-MS directory but as soon as I try to run it, it crashes the FSX-SE sim. Any ideas? Or am I doing something wrong?

I've installed the MD-11 onto my new machine, and it works great. This is a Win8.1x64 build, with only FSX:SE having touched the system. Already done a few flights for my VA.

Karl, can you kindly enlighten us how you managed this? I have FSX-MS and FSX-SE side by side, and installed the PMDG  MD-11 off the disk, al I see is the exterior model. Inside, everything is greyed out(MCP) or blank. I gave up and uninstalled.
