January 2, 201511 yr Hi All, Having posted already about upgrading my graphics card to the GTX980, it was suggested that I may be better off sorting my CPU upgrade 1st (spec currently in signature). I found the following bundle on amazon, and wanted your thoughts on it. Will it last for a few years to come?INTEL Core i7 4790K 4.0Ghz, ASUS ROG Maximus VII Ranger Motherboard & 16GB 1600Mhz DDR3 Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM Bundle. Or is there a better combination? Regards, Rob. Rob
January 3, 201511 yr The RAM is pretty slow - is there a combo with ddr3 2400mhz? | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 3, 201511 yr Author Thanks Ryan, I'll have a look about, see if I can buy it all separately too Rob
January 3, 201511 yr The ram is on the slow side by today's standards, but faster ram will cost a fair bit more for maybe a couple FPS at best in FS or P3d. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
January 3, 201511 yr In my experience, RAM speed has negligible results in normal use (and that includes FSX). You're all right with the 1600Mhz RAM, it seems a good bundle.
January 5, 201511 yr Thats a killer bundle if you asked me. King cpu with a great motherboard. Asus makes awesome products. The ram yes its a bit on the slow side but if the timmings are tight then it could be better than some ddr3 2133mhz even. Can you post the link to the bundle? i7 4790K 4.8GHz, 16GB DDR3 1866MHz, EVGA RTX 2080 XC. 1TB M.2 SSD, 4TB HDD, 4K display. The ram speed is important in a CPU bound app like FSX P3D and even more with the Haswell that can run fast mems. I think its madness to run 1600mhz ram.s and OC the Haswell CPU, better to run all stock with fast rams. Asume that you get an average fps of 30 on a stock 4790k boost 4.4ghz you clock it to 4.8ghz not all can do that. The average gone be approx 33fps then at stock 4.4 with 2666mhz mems you get 33.5fps and OC 4.8ghz fast mems 36.5fps. To get 36.5 with 1600mhz mem you need to OC 5.35ghz. http://

That's just the thing: Who cares if the sim is running at 30 fps or 36 fps? I certainly don't. I don't even know how much fps I run, all I know is that my sim is silky smooth, it doesn't make a difference if it is at 20 or 30 fps... People need to stop obsessing about fps and just enjoy their flights for a while....

ASUS Z-97 Deluxe motherboard 2. i7-4970k CPU 3. 16GB Corsiar Vengance Pro DDR3-2400 I will also be getting a GTX-980 of some description I hope this sounds ok to all, and thanks for your comments Rob

People need to stop obsessing about fps and just enjoy their flights for a while.... You'll care when you're throwing addons at it and fps drop into the teens... I'll take 20 over 16 any day... I don't care what people say - 20 is not smooth. But it's a lot smother than 16 | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
January 5, 201511 yr I get a smooth and wonderful experience with the PMDG 777 going out of Aerosoft's Heathrow.... And again, I don't really care how many fps I'm getting, that number is irrelevant.
January 5, 201511 yr It's smooth because of the your fps... I guarantee you're not getting 10 lol | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |

Killer system, you're set for a few years I'd say. Im waiting for my Z97-A and 4790K so I upgrade(my 2500K died), my 2GB GTX 770 is going to set me back as I run 1440p tho. Good luck!
