January 9, 201511 yr Don't forget that you may have just lost the cpu lottery. I struggle to get my 4670k up to 4.5GHz with 1.300v. At one point Asus tested hundreds of 4770k cpus with sealed water cooling systems and came up with the following results: 70% of cpus can clock to 4.5 30% of cpus can clock to 4.6 20% of cpus can clock to 4.7 10% of cpus can clock to 4.8 The article states that they applied a maximum core voltage of 1.275v. January 9, 201511 yr I'm at 4.8 with 1.325 Vcore and 1.92 Vccin. 4790K. Did I win the lottery? My average temp is 70C. Keep in mind I also run a custom water loop. I think I might try 4.9 David Graham Google, Network+, Cisco CSE, Cisco Unity Support Specialist, A+, CCNA
January 9, 201511 yr Author I thought I had a stable overclock with 4.5 ghz and 1.33 vCore. After a 3 hour flight the computer crashed with a blue screen even thought Prime95 ran for 1 h straight. Could be another issue but the likelihood is a bad overclock. I've turned up the voltage once more to 1.34 vCore. During an ASUS Realbench stress-test, the CPU only reaches a max temp of 65 degrees. FSX only pushes the CPU to around 55 degrees so I'm definitely in the "safe-zone". But of course, I can understand if someone thinks my voltage is to high. Brynjar Mauseth
January 9, 201511 yr It would appear that way! Not the lottery I prefer to win but I'll take whatever! David Graham Google, Network+, Cisco CSE, Cisco Unity Support Specialist, A+, CCNA
January 20, 201511 yr These processors hit a wall much faster then sandy/ivy did, you may just have to keep it at 4.4 and only about 1.28v, but this will also keep the heat down alot. My 4690k runs at 4.7 then hits a wall and needs a ton of voltage to hit 4.8. ( H110 for cooling ) Also the difference in FPS increase between 4.4 and 4.5 is not really that much. But i understand, you want the most out of it. January 20, 201511 yr Not all 4770K's can go above 4.4 GHz. Mine only managed 4.5 GHz after de-lidding. The difference between 4.4 GHz and 4.6 GHz is only 4.5%. So if you got 25 FPS at 4.4 GHz, you'll, at best (assuming no other bottlenecks, which is impossible), get around 26 FPS at 4.6 GHz. -
January 21, 201511 yr Did I win the lottery? that makes two of us. to the OP. Have you read Haswell overclocking guides? As some members already said there are a lot of other settings that need to be configured. Also if your ram is rated for 1600 then set it at 1600, find your stable overclock and then go back and try overclocking the ram which also needs testing with Memtest+. I got my 4790k vietnam batch to 4.8Ghz 1.30 volts stable using XTU and Realbench. I do not use Prime anymore as it gets too hot. Im going to be delidding in the next couple of weeks so i can push for 4.9 or 5.0ghz. Lets see what this baby can do. check out these two guides: http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-guide-with-statistics http://www.overclock.net/t/1401976/the-gigabyte-z87-haswell-overclocking-oc-guide i7 4790K 4.8GHz, 16GB DDR3 1866MHz, EVGA RTX 2080 XC. 1TB M.2 SSD, 4TB HDD, 4K display.
