January 10, 201511 yr Have to figure out setting up my CH yoke Ken One of the most confusing things for an FSX user to get right in X-Plane is the configuration of the HAT switch on your yoke. Here's a Frooglesim YouTube video to get you started. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYE4QGkW1ZI Greetings Dave Britzius (Cockpit Designer and Flight Simulator Hardware Supplier) Cape Town http://davebritzius.com
January 11, 201511 yr Thanks Jan! My hometown airport is KRSV - Crawford County Airport near Robinson, Illinois. I'm really looking forward to learning XP and need to devote some time to reading up and watching video on it to help me get started. Ken Hi Ken, as my welcome present to you I have whipped up a quick version of KRSV - Crawford County Airport. I took me less than an hour, but then again I am pretty adept at using WED - I have taken it upon me to populate all of Germany with 3D accurate airports, over 600 altogether (I am at the halfway mark, approximately). I include some pics and the file - just unzip into your "Custom Scenery" folder, and you should see it. https://www.dropbox.com/s/clbydtnvmso9uqx/KRSV%203.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/advhnh4rqfjbppb/KRSV%201.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/md8pqinlrcqgn11/KRSV%20Crawford%20County%20Airport.zip?dl=0
January 11, 201511 yr Author Wow! Thank you very much, Jan! That looks great! Ken Thanks for the link, Dave! I've watched some of his other videos and they're always good. Ken
January 11, 201511 yr Author Flew around just a little with Jan's KRSV (thank you again) and took a short sight-seeing hop around my hometown. I definitely enjoyed the flight and look forward to a lot more time in XP. I did notice the download real-world weather isn't especially accurate. It's pouring down rain here, but that didn't show up in XP after I selected the download weather option. Overall, I'm impressed and look forward to many hours in the XP cockpit.
January 11, 201511 yr Hi Ken, happy you enjoy the field! Yes, the weather can be a bit inaccurate, as far as I know it is pulling weather of the bigger weather stations and then interpolates but also adds some random patterns. So you could be flying in and out of the rain within a few miles. I found out that if I really want a specific weather, I use the menu to set it up manually. Btw, here is the link for the HD-Mesh V3 that you would want to download and install to get the best out of your region, make sure you download the tile XP10_HD_Mesh_V3_+30-90-North_America.zip: http://mirror-eu.aerosoft.com/hd_mesh/index.php#XP10_HD_Mesh_V3_+30-090-North_America.zip Be aware that it might be a bit taxing on your hardware. January 12, 201511 yr For weather you can try other options such as: http://froom.de/efass/ http://www.fsrealwx.net i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
January 12, 201511 yr Author For weather you can try other options such as: http://froom.de/efass/ http://www.fsrealwx.net Both are excellent, thanks for the referral! Just took a quick test flight. Controls don't seem as difficult to configure as the UI would make it seem. I do have to laugh at the AI traffic and ATC a bit. My little hometown airport suddenly has tower controllers and 747's landing and taking off on the shortest of the two runways (about a 3500 foot rwy). The longest runway is only about a mile, so we don't see much (any) heavy traffic here IRL. Ken

Ken Quick workaround: Go to "aircraft", then "aircraft & situations" then "other aircraft", here you can set the number of AI aircraft and what types of AI aircraft you want to see, I have set mine to all C172s, they can make about any field. In the future the AI should be smarter, and make the aircraft choice at least dependent on the type of spawn-points that are available at the airport, the designer has to set them accurately, though (most just enable all types, so thats not really helping...) Cheers, Jan
January 13, 201511 yr Author Thanks for the information! It's not really a problem, I just found it amusing. I took a 35 nm flight last night and it went very well, though I'll admit to not being impressed with the ATC. Not a real big deal though, but I do hope they'll make improvements to that part of the sim. I found the flight characteristics of the default 172 to be very good. I still need to optimize graphics for the best performance, but overall I'm very happy with X-Plane so far.
January 14, 201511 yr Ken On the subject of the X-Plane default C172, see this thread on AVSIM: http://forum.avsim.net/topic/424049-the-c172-probably-the-best-default-prop-in-x-plane-10/ and this one at the "ORG" : http://forums.x-plane.org/index.php?showtopic=81200#entry864573 Greetings Dave Britzius (Cockpit Designer and Flight Simulator Hardware Supplier) Cape Town http://davebritzius.com
