January 12, 201511 yr I understand the licensing between FSX and P3D follows different model but I am at the crossroad. I just got P3D V2.4 and its runs wonderfully on my machine but also have FSX : Steam edition. This news that product will not be cross compatible is forcing me to make a definitive choice between FSX and P3D. It's a choice I didn't want to make. I am sitting on the fence. I was looking forward to acquire my first PMDG product but I am not sure anymore. I will have to wait and see. https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
January 12, 201511 yr Don't make a choice. Have both installed on different drives. Apart from the odd visual, you're getting very little advantage from P3D as far as I can see. I have both and can see no benefit to P3D whatsoever. I shall be keeping the PMDG stuff on my FSX for as long as they'll make it for FSX.
January 12, 201511 yr I have FSX, FSX:SE and P3D installed; the latter two on the same F: drive. From what I see of FSX:SE, it is just FSX with a profoundly convoluted installer. If you want to reinstall it you must first redownload it from Steam. My initial impression of P3D is pretty good, at least it is an improved FSX core but the only downside is of course default aircraft are worth what you pay for them. Nothing. I'm going in the same direction as PMDG, and hopefully that is towards P3D. Just my opinion of course. Dan Downs KCRP
January 12, 201511 yr Yep, I'm sticking with FSX as long as I can, it works fine on my system and I know all my addons work. Perhaps in the future I'll move over to P3D when it offers me more than what the hassel would be to switch....I don't see FSX-SE ever going to a 64bit platform, so P3D will probably end up being the future, along with X-Plane...just my 2 cents!
January 12, 201511 yr Author I have Win 8.1 so FSX:SE does run better than FSX. P3D runs very smoothly also. I would have love to have the product to be cross compatible. Btw, is the 737-NGX series the plane I should start with ? https://fsprocedures.com Your home for all flight simulator related checklist.
January 12, 201511 yr Btw, is the 737-NGX series the plane I should start with ? The NGX is not (yet) supported in P3D. I don't recall if there were installer issue in FSX-SE, but if there are I'm sure they'll be taken care of soon. Don't make a choice. Have both installed on different drives. Eventually most of us who move from disk-based FSX will need to decide on one or the other for the purposes of add-on purchases. Sure some products install on both platforms, but many don't, or do but only with additional licenses and expense. While I agree that there's no harm (and often great value) in running multiple sims, most of us will ultimately pick one as the home for most of our add-ons and sim time. Scott
