The APP Hold On The Posky 757 Works - Kinda

Featured Replies

well theres good news and bad news, the good being i can get the plane down using APP hold, the bad news is that with anything more than 10 flap the angle is so severe it just looks unrealistic and wud give the PAX bit of a fright. With full flaps, 130 knots, gear down and at 2500 foot with the 757 pretty heavy, the airplane still can only maintain a 5 degree nose down angle. manually its certainly possible to approach with the nose up but AP doesnt seem to like it.i have devised 4 different solutions to defeat the autopilot, if this dont work, well ill be back to where i started.1) intercept the glidepath at 150 knots with 15 flaps, the second ive intercepted cut the throttles & establish an IAS of 140 so the plane gets lower quicker and gets to the point where its verging on being below the GP, soon as the AP would be struggling to maintain this it will have to pull up to get more lift, now i would lower more flaps but thats only feeding the autopilot.2)get the aircraft all set up with a nose up descent manually, then turn on APP to simply maintain this3)(similar to plan 2) have no ALT hold on, therefore i can manage a nose up descent, as i near the glidepath, increase this rate of descent with a higher nose up angle, then the AP (soon as the planes already going down at a fair rate) will just raise the nose slightly to maintain the GS)4)soon as it seems that the plane isnt responding quickly enough after ive intercepted, i will take matters into my own hands by turning off both alt and APP hold as i intercept the glidepath, ill wait till im nearly too low, then activate APP hold5)(the one you'd encourage me to do if u had any sense)just knock it off with the ILS's and do visual for the rest of my flights & stop raising contless annoying threads on avsim!) :-lol nearly done, just 2 observations, whenever i touch down (no its not too hard and i dont push down on t he stick the second i land) the nose will suddenly jerk up and down, it lasts less than a second or so. i know it doesnt affect the game, but it just looks unrealistic.the 2nd observation, on my approach i always have 3 whites, this would suggest that my theory is correct about the AP reacting too late and not being able to recover from this deficit. therefore its always going to be descending.also, can i send some1 my posky757 to see if they can get it 2 work, then they cud send me a flight video of how they did it. and does the panel matter? maybe the panels programmed to react too late. (eek with all theories and clues this is more like a murder investigation than a little glidepath problem, i mean, how many lines have i done for god sake!)thanks 2 every1 whos helped, bye!:-wave

by the way i tried to get Lonny Paynes panel to work but it proved a bit intricate, could some1 please send me the panel in a folder which i just need to put into the 757's panel folder, and the gauges/other vital things i need. (ie some1 build me the panel and just send it 2 me - my email is [email protected])im not bothered about any fancy stuff like the moving map and tcas or whatever, just so long as i can see the ARC/Rose thing.

If the aircraft isn't responding fast enough, try this:Open the aircraft.cfgGo to the flight_tuning sectionBump up the trim sensitivity. The POSky 757 was one of the aircraft I used to debug with Autoland 2004--it is fully able to follow the G/S when slaved to APR mode IF the approach is stable to begin with. I usually intercept in the bigger jets at least ten miles out and lower the flaps in increments after the G/S stabilizes each time. Also, make sure you are within landing weight limits. Last, the 757 surprises me at how slow it can land at times. I was stunned on an ATA flight that they were able to squeeze one into Midway, fully loaded with pax. -John

will, why are you so "hot" for posky? their models are great and maybe the FDE is also ok, but if you are such a perfectionist, and beside that even real world pilot, you REALLY REALLY should buy Level-D 767. It has the most realistic landing I've seen in FS9, together with PMDG 737.Why just not buy it, and stop trying to make freeware as good as payware, hm?

And also doesnt want to pay 40 bucks for a plane which he doesnt want to fly (because he seems to want to fly the 757 and not the 767 otherwise he would have used the 767 and not the 757)

ya, i wont spend the money for a 767 because the posky plane SHOULD work, and CAN work, and im determined to sort it out, im not being hot for them either, how is constructively trying to solve something being hot?now, its not the trim sensitivity that needs adjusting, as after ALT hold goes off the plane noses up tremendously, then sharply noses down to get back on course.my next plan will be to fky towards the gp at 180 knots, and just as im about to intercept cut the throttles to 138 or so, then as the plane starts to descend, ill increase power to keep it on the glidepath.now, its not POSKY's fault, im clearly not doing something as i should, thats why im trying so many different things, if i wasnt doing anything wrong id just give up, and i fear that even with the PMDG737 id probably not be able to do it.

willg,kerosene31 is right - that pitchdown problem is fixed in the latest fde - make sure to update and you should be good to go.regards,MarkXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1GIG/X700pro256

FWIW, I've observed some real-world aircraft about 10 miles out on final with some nose down pitch. The nose will raise as airspeed reduces and near full flaps are added maybe the last three miles or so.Now I am assuming you are intercepting the glideslope at the correct altitude and you are correct for weight and balance, using the correct airspeed and flaps schedule for your landing gross weight. Follow the performance curves and procedures in the pilot's manual and as another poster suggested insure you have the correct FDE files loaded for FS9, an update pointed to in their forum. As for the descent overshoot of pitch control, make sure you are the correct rate of descent (VSI) for final probably around 1,000 to 800 at the point before where you acquire the glide slope or usually be in level flight at that point. Make sure you acquire the GS intercept from below (that is the GS marker will be high on the indicator). If the aircraft is equipped, are you using autothrottle? To avoid "throttle jerk" on disabling it, I preset the stick control to near where it should be before disengaging it. If not, you could get some of the conditions you describe.

"now, its not the trim sensitivity that needs adjusting, as after ALT hold goes off the plane noses up tremendously, then sharply noses down to get back on course."If you are getting a change that severe, you may be intercepting too close and not allowing the time/distance needed to establish a stable approach. I am usually ten miles out on intercept in anything bigger than a bizjet, and going between 160-180 kts. The closer you intercept the G/S, the more severe the attempts the autopilot will make to maintain the G/S--a process which usually fails. I've mentioned this before, so I am not sure whether you are seeking help or just "thinking out loud" via these threads. -John

hmmmm it looks like i will get the PMDG 737, simply because i tried EXACTLY the same procedure in a default 737 and everything was perfect. by the way those FDE updates loose me the plane, besides, i dont think it wud have fixed it neway, its how the AP reads the GP and flap settings that need to be fixed.

You're comparing apples and oranges--procedures in a 737 are different than a 757. Weights are different, etc... But as someone said yesterday and as I say again today, I suspect you're not here to seek advice--it only seems you want to hold the forum's attention.-John

i would try and defend myself but soon as it seems that im going in circles i shall be deleting myself from these forums. bye allim not having a go at anyone, i just think the longer i stay here the harder itll get for me, well, bye!:-wave :-wave though i do suspect there has been a little American anti-Englishism here.

HelloI have been following these threads with interest. It seems to me that you are unable to accept any help that is given to you.The people who have been trying to help you are some of the most experienced simmers you are going to meet anywhere on the internetbut you will not listen to anything that is said to you Why?Your attitude to everyone here is petulant like a spoilt childwhich makes me wonder how old are you? , My guess is about 12 years oldwhich probably explains why you haven't just taken the recomendations given to you and bought a top class payware jet. too young to have a credit card probably. As a fellow englishman you are a total embarrassment to meNow please go away.
