June 3, 200521 yr Looks like a really interesting gauge and you sure can't beat the price!Linky:http://www.simflyer.net/shop/gns480.html:) Ark -------------------------- I9 9900K @ 5ghz / 32GB G.Skill (Samsung B) / Aorus Master Mobo / EVGA GTX 2080Ti FTW 3
June 4, 200520 yr As far as I can tell (e.g. I just viewed the short video provided on Simflyer's site) this is yet another repackaged version of the default FS9 GPS - i.e. it looks like a GNS480 at first glance but does not walk, talk, or bark like the real unit - in contrast with the RealityXP products which use Garmin's own GNS430/530 simulator as a starting point, and therefore operate much more like the real units.Perhaps my expectations have been set too high by RXP's Garmin emulators, but I am still waiting on a GNS480 add-on to FS9 that I would pay *any* amount of $ for. (And when someone can figure out how to use Garmin's GNS480 simulator to do this well, I'll be one of the first folks in line to buy it.)If I'm wrong about the accuracy of the emulation, I would welcome being set straight about it and be pleasantly surprised about it... But the actual screens I saw seem to be the same as what you'd get with the "GPS500" in FS9, and I'd bet one of my wisdom teeth that this product is not WAAS GPS approach-capable.Oh wait, I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled in the 70s... But you get my drift 8^) .Dave Blevins System: Asus P8Z68 Deluxe/Gen3 mobo *** i7 2700K @ 5gHz w/ Corsair H80 cooler NVidia GTX 570 OC *** 8 GB 1600 Corsair Vengeance DRAM *** CoolerMaster HAF X case System overclocked and tuned for FSX by fs-gs.com Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog stick/throttle & CH Products Pro Pedals Various GoFlight panels *** PFC avionics stack
June 4, 200520 yr Yeah I have seen the video too. Seems you are right. Also , on the SimFlyer Website they state :"The SimFlyer
June 4, 200520 yr Does this unit have VNAV/LNAV capability + the ability to amend waypoints on screen? That is what a true FMC does and the FS9 GPS does not. Also can it be programmed for speed control? If not is there a good alternative available?Shez Shez Ansari Windows 11; CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K; GPU: EVGA GEFORCE GTX 1080Ti 11GB; MB: Gigabyte Z370 AORUS Gaming 5; RAM: 16GB; HD: Samsung 960 Pro 512GB SSD, Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD; Display: ASUS 4K 28", Asus UHD 26"
June 4, 200520 yr Haven't tried it out yet but would expect that a good job was done on the Simflyer unit.Recent developments have caused us to take a fresh look at the default Garmin 500 and must say we were pleasantly surprised at the features and data available in the default FS9 gps.Repackaging, based on the default FS9 GPS is not a bad solution if done well, and this one seems to be done well.We all must use these things in the simulator environment so any unit using the sim data base may be a good choice.
June 4, 200520 yr Author Ron,There are many, many unused variables in the FS9 GPS system, including VNAV.. Probably enough to do a FMC/FMS. Some of these although, have no function as of yet. Just a teaser, most likely, for FS10.. Regards,Roman FS RTWR SHRS F-111 JoinFS Little Navmap
