The dreaded windows 8

Featured Replies

Hi

I have recently got a new computer for my birthday and it is a very powerful conputer with specs that would run FSX really great, the problem is, it has windows 8.1 on it and I use Fsx deluxe which is not compatible with windows 8, also I use PMDG 737ngx which is compatible with win8 but it requires fsx sp2 and the sp2 isn't compatible with win8. So my question is, what should I do? Do I buy Fsx standard (which is compatible with win8) or is there a way to get windows 7 on a new computer because I don't think you can by it anymore

Thanks

Lets dispel a few myths you have picked up along the way.

Fsx deluxe is compatible with windows 8

sp2 is compatible with win8

Fsx standard is functionally the same as Fsx deluxe except for lacking some enhanced airports and a copy of the SDK.

Windows 7 is still available for sale.

W8 has an issue with your controllers dropping out, the fix is to use Fsuipc to set up your controllers.

FSX works normaly with Win 8.1, as Glyn said, just setup controllers via the FSUIPC so you won't have controllers dropping out.

I've been using Windows since 3.1. Bought my wife a new laptop for Christmas and it came, of course, with Windows 8.1. All I can say is if you've trained your users for years to use a program in a certain way, don't change it all at once. Win 8 is a terrible abomination and with my years of experience it's like a foreign language.Hard to use and hard to understand.

I know this has nothing to do with the original post; just wanted to rant.
