March 27, 201511 yr He explained to me that XP was originally designed to be a training tool for himself and general aviation pilots hence a lot of the features we see in XP. This is the frustrating part. The weather modeling is so sub par when the goal is to be a VFR/IFR (IFR first for him I'd gather) sim training tool.
March 27, 201511 yr I'm sure he could throw a touch of cash at a GUI guy. I'm sure Austin has his priorities, don't think the GUI is one of them, maybe in XP11. March 27, 201511 yr I'm sure Austin has his priorities, don't think the GUI is one of them, maybe in XP11. Sure hope so. It's unbearable to use at native 4k and above resolutions (absolutely tiny click spots and hard to see everything)
March 27, 201511 yr ...By the way to the poster above - I'm not an "FSX guy", nor do i need "spoon feeding". I just have eyeballs and the GUI on XPX looks like crap for 2015. Please don't take what I said personally Turbine, it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular! I understand that it could be prettier and scale better etc, but as it stands everything is more or less at hand and LR will surely have higher priorities. I think if it will change, that will be likely in the v11 run.

Sounds like we can all agree that the interface can be very powerful and still look good at the same time. It need not be a binary thing where to be powerful it must look like garbage. :-) I'm honestly not sure it will ever get attention. Not sure if you picked this up in the interview but Austin thinks his XAVION app looks amazing. Not sure I'm with him on that one either. Looks like an early 2000's medical computer interface to me. Haha.
March 27, 201511 yr A couple of comments here, aimed at previous posts. First, I suspect Austin had money before he created X-Plane. His reason for building his own simulator was because he wanted to practice for his own aircraft. So whether his current cash for a home-built came from some previous job or from an inheritance or from X-Plane profits is irrelevant. Remember, it is quite pricy at the commercial level. Second, Austin is obviously a very brilliant idea man. He's a detail man only to the point of getting his ideas to work, then others can put the icing on the cake for him. If it works, he doesn't care, it would seem. As far as 4K, I have the same problem with tiny text on my new laptops. Scaling text should be included in new versions, but I would never buy a 4K monitor for a computer - not until I find a program that utilizes that resolution and I have the bandwidth and/or computer horsepower to utilize it. My system is no dog (just built a near state of the art machine with 4GB VRAM) but I doubt it would push 4K without some serious Rendering reduction. I'll take the framerates any day.
