May 7, 201511 yr Trying to remember what I did years ago when flying MSFS, I can't remember of I subscribed to updates on the Nav data back then . Now I have the 430/530 GNS and they have a subscription for Navadata available. My question is, if the data in the P3D which is used as the default database, is in step with the airport data, would not updating the database with a current one of today, then make the data out of sync with the default runways, airports, etc? I will most likely be flying General aviation flights, so I am wondering if getting a subscription for current nav data might be just a waste of money.
May 7, 201511 yr Moderator In some cases, yes, the data in the sim would be out of date. If you are not going to be flying IFR, IMHO it would be a waste of money. You do NOT need the accuracy of a current nav db. Vic RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
May 8, 201511 yr you can update the default navdata pretty easily http://www.aero.sors.fr/navaids3.html -Roland
May 8, 201511 yr Moderator Yes you can do that, but it is not a 100% solution. Airports and runways are not updated with the Herve Sor's package. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
May 8, 201511 yr Yes you can do that, but it is not a 100% solution. Airports and runways are not updated with the Herve Sor's package. Actually, European airport runways and ILSs ARE updated with the main Sors update installer (that also updates worldwide VORs NDBs etc.) Also, Hervé now has current update installers for ILS and runways for areas outside of Europe, available by region. These installers are downloaded separately from the original worldwide navaids updater. Jim BarrettLicensed Airframe & Powerplant Mechanic, Avionics, Electrical & Air Data Systems Specialist. May 9, 201511 yr Ah, I see. Thanks for the updated info, Jim. I've learned my "new thing for the day." Hérve is performing a great service for the community with these updates, which apparently entail quite a bit of hand coding and verification on his part. There is no charge to download these files, but I would encourage anyone who finds them of use to consider making a financial donation as the spirit moves you, to help support his ongoing work.
