Low CPU & GPU use but low FPS?

DirectX is also used on the XBox. The PS4 uses a variant of the DirectX API to make it easier for programmers to port apps.

And the distinction presently between OGL and DirectX is somewhat artificial also as there are equivalent calls in each API.

DirectX will never be used with X-Plane as it is Windows only. Vulcan could be a possibility but is way to early to be sure it is going to be a replacement of opengl. Laminar is changing system requirements only in complete version changes, so we wont see a change until v11 in that department. Personally i think it will be V12 before we will see any vulcan or other replacement opengl replacement technology.

I'm well aware of all that. The point is that the poor utilization of multicore CPUs is simply not the (XP-) Developers fault. But we are at a point where new possibilities emerge - so things might change.

BTW: Ben didn't sound too pessimistic in his comment on Vulcan and timeframes. Regarding how fast developers were able to adopt mantle and how much excitement there is about those new APIs I would say a 2-years timeframe is realistic. Could well be the bait for XP11.
