new to Photoscenery

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

After trying some photoscenery from Bluesky I decided this is the way to go from now on.

I am going to switch from FSX to FSX SE and use photoscenery as much as possible from here on.

(I have GEX/UTX for areas where I cant get (or cant afford yet) photoscenery.

FSX SE will be installed into a fresh new win7 OS......so nothing from FSX boxed is there to cause trouble!

I also just bought some Megascenery Earth stuff.

The old version versus v2.0 stuff is not explained very well......how do I know if I downloaded/bought the old version or v2.0?

And, do Megascenery and Bluesky correct original FSX airport positions so they are accurate?

In otherwords do they provide corrected AFCADs with their product?

And if so.....how can I prevent conflicts with MytrafficX........as you may know, duplicate AFCAD entries for one and the same airport can cause all kinds of problems.

I also cant figure out if the above mentioned products do or do not come with scenery mesh.

I tried Megascenery NY in FSX boxed (was just an experiment) and saw some underlying auogen stuff bleed through. The Skyline of Manhattan had autogen buildings and I liked that but other small land patches had strips of autogen trees and even around JFK airport I saw autogen hauses and stuff.....this did not look good.

Plus I dont want autogen bleeding through for frame rate reasons.

I thought with photoscenery there is no such thing as autogen?

Do I have to deactivate UTX/GEX or in the case of my new FSX SE install, should I not install UTX and GEX (that would be a bummer as areas without photoscenery would look real crapy then).

thx.

All I can tell you is photo real needs to be at the very top of your library and no photo real scenery does not provide mesh - you should not have to deactivate scenery if its above all others - hope this helps a little bit

Actually, I do believe photo real can be anywhere in the scenery library. As long as it's the highest resolution textures for a given area, it will be shown. No matter where it is in your priority order in your scenery library.

Photoreal...at least MSE and Bluesky do not come with mesh, correct. You'd need to get that elsewhere

You also do not need to deactivate utx/gex or global/vector. Photoreal works fine with any vector data but it will replace gex/global textures of course

You will not see autogen at all when using photoreal scenery. You do still see the custom hand placed objects like you noticed in Manhattan. I forget what they are technically called now but they are not the same as "normal" autogen. This is or can be seen as a drawback of photoreal. Everything will be flat. However, you do get improved frames/smoother flight because you are no longer displaying autogen

I don't believe MSE provides corrected afcads but I could be wrong. Not sure about Bluesky though

Thx guys for the replies.

- I plan on putting photoscenery below addon airports.

Not sure if I will put it above or below UTX, but that is for later anyway as I will be testing in FSX SE with only photoscenery at first.

- I could not find anything about scenery mesh or changed AFCADs at the Megascenery site.

But blueskyscenery does both!....for example chck here:

http://www.blueskyscenery.com/JAC_West18.html

I checked the Bluesky/areaxxx/Scenery folder and inside where both the mesh.bgl as well as the airport.bgl files (AFCADs).

So as long as I put bluesky scenery above FSGenesis mesh (also in the library because I do manual FSGenesis mesh install).....things should be ok.

-I will have to experiment with deactivating the Bluesky AFCADs or the MyTraffixX AFCADs to prevent duplicate AFCAD problems. (deactivate by renaming the.bgl files)

If I deactivate bluesky AFCADs then the airport position on the photoscenery might be incorrect.

If I deactivate MyTraffixX AFCADs then maybe no more traffic will go to those airports.

I did create an acount at the megascenery forum (PC aviator), but so far I am not allowed to post :-(

1. Put photoscenery above UTX or else the UTX roads and stuff will be super imposed over the photoscenery and won't look good. Just make sure to put your addon airports above the photoscenery.

2. The newer MegaScenery does not come with AFCADS like their older CD products did. The rest of your second point was correct.

3. You'll have to experiment with the AFCADS on an airport per airport basis to see how they look. Generally the Bluesky AFCADs were designed to fit the photoreal perfectly while the MTX ones may not. The only concern you'll have with the Bluesky AFCADs is that they might not have the correct parking codes for the airliners to park at the correct gate or they may not have enough gates. You can edit the Bluesky AFCADs yourself with ADE to fix gate codes and or add parking spots it needed.
