SSD has 0 bytes left. Looking to transfer, Help

Featured Replies

Hey guys, I have a Windows 7 gaming rig with the OS installed on a 60gb OCZ SSD. There is absolutely no space left, even when disk cleanup automatically runs. I also have 2 500gb HDDs that are dedicated for programs on one and files/backups on the other, both fine space-wise.

I have a spare Samsung 850 Evo 120gb SSD I picked up a while back, and I would like to transfer the OS SSD over. I have read that the best way to do this is a clean install, but I do not have my Win7 install disc anymore. Could I trust the Samsung software to transfer everything, and then make my new SSD the boot drive? And would that fix all the problems?

Kinda a side question, what happens when Win 10 comes out if I would like to upgrade? Will there be enough space on the Samsung, or do you think I could leave my OCZ SSD in there and do a dual OS boot?

Sorry, lots of questions. But if anyone can help it's much appreciated. Thanks

If you can get your Windows 7 key from your system, you can download the iso files directly from Microsoft that you can burn to a DVD or copy to a USB flash drive.  All is not lost as long as you have a legal copy of Windows 7.

Thanks for the info Jim. I have a legitimate copy of Win 7 but it turns out that it's an OEM product key, so I can't download the iso files from Microsoft.

Hi,

If you can remove some data on that drive to install a program called Acronis, you should be able to make a complete copy of the drive, including Windows. I just did it a few days ago, went from 10,000rpm drive to a 1TB SSD.

Both drives are bootable and work just fine, just something to think about. It saved me days of reinstalling, I now keep a backup drive with the exact same data for all my computers. I'm done with reinstalls.

Yes. Just download the Samsung software and clone your C:\ OS to the 850 EVO

Thanks guys. I'm not able to get back to my computer until next week but I'll try to post here how it goes or if I have any problems.

And you looked at the Windows 7 sticker on your machine?

I don't have a sticker, my PC was custom built by a family friend who works for Microsoft. I emailed him and he had the key he used for the OS on my ssd still in his files
