UTX Europe 2.1 Comparisons

I think you are absolutely right Michael. But clearly some are more `wrong` than others !

In any case it shouldn't matter if `realism` is the goal - a GA pilot isn't normally allowed to fly over Paris and an airline pilot would be seeing it from a far higher altitude and have his/her mind focussed on other things at that phase of flight, so the accuracy of the autogen is a moot point.

Unless one is NOT flying realistically !

Realism has many more facets than just the buildings on the ground

Hm, I declare I am not flying realistically then <_<

Kind regards, Michael

Ok we can try again...

Sorry for the delay, work etc.

Hi Chris! I wonder how the night lighting of UTX appear in P3D 2.5 with and without HDR enabled. If you kindly could provide some images of this I would be very happy, preferably over some towns/cities with fairly much lighting.

I am sometimes naughtily unrealistic too. But not in the real world - that's always serious business, even when fun. It's another reason I prefer flying in France than this sceptic Isle.

Hi Fi5kuS

As requested.

http://tutmeister.co.uk/london_night/

I chose London but am happy to do some other areas if needed or from higher up but then you lose the autogen when you are high up anyway!

You will notice that no matter what version you choose, you will see the radius at which the lights stop. For this reason I don't like night flying much. Unless I'm in a tube in which case I don't really care. :)

Thank you so much, really appreciate it.

So it seems UTX night lightning is directly connected to the LOD radius? Also, I guess you can customize it to your liking, like this, which I find nice:

...btw, also a image of London by night.

I have to say I didn't think I'd be saying this, but based on your screenshots, visually I prefer Vector+OpenLC to UTX. Thanks for posting them, they have been most informative.

UTX seems to "over urbanise" things, making built-up areas bigger than they really are. But UTX has a lot more urban roads than Vector, which is sparse in comparison, and also UTX looks a lot better at night. Ultimately I still prefer Vector+OpenLC's, but it's a shame its memory footprint is so much bigger, and there doesn't seem to be an obvious reason for that.

Actually from what I've seen orbx has a lower footprint when everything is maxed out. If you look at the screenshots they show vas remaining in orbx's favour unless I'm mistaken.

As discussed further up it seems to be due to more smaller buildings and lots more minor roads being displayed. Ultimately it's all down to personal preference!

Chris

Ah sorry I misread, I thought those numbers were VAS used, not remaining! Wish I'd got vector when it was on sale now, ah well I'll wait for the next sale.
