High Elevation Airports (SOP)

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have a doubt with sop 3, in the "ten checks" for high elevation airports. I read in the manual that the F/O must call altimeters to do the FL100 checks, and the aircraft must be under 13000ft and above 7000ft.

The elevation of La paz airport (SLLP) is 13313ft.

Will the "ten checks"  be done in the TL, which is 18000ft ?

How's the procedure for this, using sop3 ?

I think you'll find the particular airline using SOP3 doesnt fly to a destination at that kind of altitude and the question is therefore moot?

Yes i know that. But i only want to know if there's any possibility to use or how to use sop3 in that situation.

I'll wait for Bryan to answer this

Well, the thought had crossed our minds what to do, but it can get settled real easy :)

The 737 is not approved nor able to safely depart from an airport with an elevation of 10000 or above, so we didn't bother making it more complicated than SOP3 already is, by diverting from reality :)

I am afraid you must either do the TEN CHECKS yourself, or go with one of the other SOP's when flying from high altitude airports

There is a high altitude option for the NG to raise the limit up to 12000ft according to the FCOM.

The CL must have an even higher limit because there are some B733 to/from La Paz daily. I don't know what option or limit they have though.

Avec l'avion, nous avons inventé la ligne droite.

St Exupéry, Terre des hommes.

It is of course not highlighted in my FCOM but as the airplane i fly don't have that configuration that is obvious.

I am pretty sure you can't go that high at least with the -800 (You may with the -700 but it takes some very extreme messures like landing Flaps 15), and with the small amount of airports that are located that high

, it didn't seem like a big priority.

But the solution is simple. do the TEN checks yourself :) and then ignore the FO if he calls. That's how I would tackle it

the real world is not always all SOP either ;)

El Alto airport (SLLP) has 737's flying from/to there. GOL is an example. They fly from/to there with the 737-800.

Lukas, i'll do that. Sounds a good idea. Let's see if it works well.

Thanks!
