FS2004 CTD

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone,

I know that we are a dwindling number of fs2004 users, but I hope that someone can help me out with a ctd problem which has recently started occuring.

I get a CTD when loading a flight. The progress bar gets to 100%, the scenery and sound loads for a fraction of a second, and then black screen and the message that fs9 has stopped working.

This does not happen everytime I try and begin a flight - around 80% of the time.

I have not made any recent additions to FS, other than to update my Navigraph databases to the most current versions. It happens at any location, with any aircraft, including default.

I have recently updated my graphics driver, but FS has worked subsequently to this. I do use NVIDIA inspector set up according to the well-known NickN settings.

Hoping that someone has experienced something similar (and solved the problem!)

Thanks in advance

100%? Does this happen with a specific aircraft (or panel)? Other than that, could be an AI aircraft corrupted. Have you tried loading with 0% AI?

Lossless Scaling for all my sims. What a godsend...

Mobile rig: ASUS Zenbook UM425QA (AMD Ryzen 7 5800H APU @3.2 GHz and boost disabled, 1 TB M.2 SSD, 16 GB RAM, Windows 11 Pro). Running FS9 there .

VKB Gladiator NXT Premium Left + GNX THQ as primary controllers. Xbox Series X|S wireless controller as standby/mobile.

In addition - have you checked the event manager to see what event is being generated when FS crashes?  The event codes can be useful for diagnosing the problem.

You should also check out the AVSIM CTD Guide as most of the manual will fix FS9 problems too.

No matter what aircraft - the bar gets to 100%, the scenery and panel shows for a split second and then ctd.

Have also tried disabling ai - same result - ctd. Have also checked my ai textures with texture checker

Will check the event viewer - am away for the weekend at the moment.

Also will have a look through the avsim ctd guide

The link is broken since we upgraded our system.  If you look to the right of this forum you should see a list of guides under "Hot Spots".  Click on the CTD Guide and it will take you to a special link we set up temporarily OR you can click on the following link:  http://www.avsim.com/topic/473269-avsim-crash-to-desktop-ctd-guide/?p=3283418

Apologize for any inconveniences.

Just a quick message to say thank you to everyone for their help.

Using the CTD guide that Jim pointed me towards, I identified an fe.dll error which pointed me towards my ai traffic file. Using a combination of ACA and AI Texture Checker inidentified several bae146 aircraft that were missing a lightmap. Once these were added FS9 and I was able to start a flight. Not sure why this should have suddenly become an issue, however, this sim continues to surprise!!!! (Good and bad)
