I know this is probably post number 6590443 on VAS issues but no matter what I do with my Sim or the 777 I can't get to the state of being able to fly the plane from one payware airport to another in longer haul flights. I have tried everything, lowered settings etc but always have to either reload the flight two or three times or get an OOM.

 

My Autogen settings are all sparse and detail is on normal. I have 1024 textures and compressed all of my payware scenery. I can fly the PMDG 737 over reasonable distances without the same issues, it seems that the 777 constantly uses more VAS as the flight goes on. (My VAS with the 737 stays fairly constant from departure to arrival). I have also followed guides to remove RAAS and other stuff.

 

Is there anything obvious I am missing, the constant high VAS usage doesn't seem right?

 

(For ground textures I have FTX global/Open LC Europe and Rex 4+soft Clouds/ASN for sky stuff)

That's not unusual given the use of the Orbx products, which I also use.  I also have the FTX N America products, pretty much all of it, and I used to manage my VAS by only turning on the FTX product I wanted to use. That allowed me to get by on most flights with just the one save/restart before TOD.  Lately, I've gotten lazy and leave Orbx in the Hybrid mode and my trip VHHH-KDFW recently required two save/restarts.

 

As for the NGX, I just finished KLAX-KATL in the 738 and almost didn't make it to the gate.  FSUIPC was gonging and I shut down with about 260 MB remaining. Whew.

 

Bottom line, all that pretty scenery takes significantly more than the PMDG products, the difference between VAS use by NGX and 777 is not that great but being in the air much longer excaberates the problem.

 

I've simply gotten used to doing the save/restart and part of what comes with nice scenery, good airports and a quality aircraft.

Uncheck in the addon scenery list in the fsx menus all your addon scenery except your departure and arrival airports. Uncheck all those extra orbx airports if you have them,especially large photoscenery, I started getting OOM again after installing their Yosemite and Devil's Tower freeware, big mistake installing them, the photoscenery gets loaded no matter where you fly in the world, and that is over 1gb of scenery.

 

I'm back flying the MD-11 because it takes up so much less vas. But I can complete a 777 flight if I don't enable any other scenery except departure and arrival airports. - David Lee
