Scenery Config Editor in P3D V3

Featured Replies

For those who, like me, rely heavily on Andrew Thornton's awesome Scenery Config Editor (SCE) to manage scenery file configuration, the latest version (V1.1.5, rel 1 Oct 2015) does not have native support for P3D V3 like it now does for V1/V2, FSX, FSX-SE, and FS9, but it's still pretty easy to make it work with the new version using the provided user-defined options.

In Edit -> Preferences, browse to or enter your P3D V3 root directory in the Flight Simulator Directory box, select "User Defined" in the "Location of scenery.cfg file" radio button dialog, and in the "Scenery file location" box, browse to or type in the P3D V3 config folder (C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v3)

Click OK, and close the program/restart and you're in business.

Thanks, thought as much but had no opportunity to test so confirmation is useful! :)

Yeh, good, thanks.  didn't know about latest, but last version worked the same way as well.  Seems all the P3Ds have used the same OldScenery.cfg convention as FSX - not surprising really.  Used to build scenery library in v3 with all my (compliant, externally held) scenery - including photo and UK er, airports, islands, whoops, you know, Kevin!  Effects and Sound of course, either old way or need to build external Effects and Sound.  Interestingly, if you do a un-install of earlier P3D version, leftover folders/files tell you which effects, sound, etc.  you need to worry about.  PM for detail if you want . . . and don't forget those autogen files - no clear method in new structure

  • 1 year later...

Hi, I have the newest version I use in P3D 3.4 and V4.

It works fine when I go to Preferences and select 3.4, it populated the "Flight Simulator Directory" every time, no problem.

However, when I click on the Prepar3D v4 mode it does not populate that same box so I have to constantly manually type in the path to P3Dv4 - Z:\P3DV4 then it ill work fine.

Anyone else see this?

Thanks.

Hi Jack,

im using the SCE as well. I also need to change path but i do it with a few mouse clicks. Unfortunately it does not show sceneries that has been added via the xml procedure. I have all my FSDT and FB sceneries install via add ons xml and the do not show up in SCE. Within P3D i cant change the oder priority. Any ideas how to change that? Thanks....

Gosh, I really have no idea.

I don't even know what the xml procedure you talk about is.

I'm really a flyer and not a programmer.  Wish I knew more.

At least I know I'm not alone with that box not being populated.

 Thanks for answering and I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help.

The xml procedure is pretty easy. In the folder where you find your scenery.cfg there is also a add-ons.cfg the entry should look like this

[entry.0]
Path=where your add on is located
Title=Your Add on title
Active=True
Required=False

If you have any FSDT or Flightbeam scenery they will add the entries automatically.

All I can say is I wish I knew as much as you do.
