October 13, 201510 yr Author I have made an Addon scenery folder where I copied all my scenery in ( pasted from v2 ) All Effects in the main P3D Effects folder. I choose this way so I can install Addon scenery into P3Dv3 and then copy the folder to the external Addon scenery folder.. Then modify the library path and done. No chance of having double Effect files. Before a reinstall I only have to copy the Effects folder to a save place... I took my P3Dv2 scenery.cfg file , deleted the Props and Addon scenery folde entries and modified the others towards the external Addon scenery folder. Working like a charm.. 5950x3d 5.4-5.7 GHz - Asus ROG 870 Crosshair Apex - GSkill Neo 2x 24 Gb 6000 mhz / cas 26 - MSI RTX 5090 Gaming Trio OC - 1x SSD M2 6000 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Corsair 5400 case - Corsair 360 liquid cooling set - 3x 75’ TCL tv. 13600 6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - FOV : 200 degrees My flightsim vids : https://www.youtube.com/user/fswidesim/videos?shelf_id=0&sort=dd&view=0
February 28, 201610 yr Hi. Simple (I think) question here. Do I need to jump through all these hoops to install new scenery files (ORBX and UTX2) to a new P3D v3 installation on a new drive? I sure hope not. I'm not trying to transfer anything from my P3D 2.5 system which resides on a separate drive which basically will be retired unless I want to fly with certain addons there. I figured I would just buy new set of addons if necessary for v3 and keep versions 2.5 and 3 completely separate. I'm not a programmer/hardware engineer and try to avoid doing any more customizing than necessary. I would just like to enjoy flying more. Through the years (about 25) it seems that, unfortunately, the enjoyment factor has gone down because of the complexity and therefore the greater need to customize installation procedures, etc. to make things work properly. I do recognize the talent that many on here have to be able to figure out and make the changes necessary and always appreciate seeing and often using the suggestions. It does get confusing at times and I hate bothering others to sometimes clarify things. Not worried about my time, but their's. February 29, 201610 yr Hi Jeff. No you don't need to do any of that stuff. Just install ORBX stuff (and probably UTX too, but I haven't got that) where it wants to go. No need to do anything else. The suggestions above are just that - suggestions. They are designed to make reinstalling easier. Cheers Stu Stuart Furley
February 29, 201610 yr Thanks, Stu. I've started installing the ORBX, but ran out of time last night. BTW, isn't the new file system for P3D v3 designed so that upgdates only have to be installed in one of the three sections of software? Sorry I can't remember the names of the sections right now. I was thinking that this was done to prevent having to reinstall the whole sim. If you have to update the core module, you will not have to reinstall addon or default scenery. However, if you update the scenery module AND your addons are WITHIN the P3D root folder - you WILL have to reinstall them. Hence the OPTION to install OUTSIDE the root folder. February 29, 201610 yr Thanks very much for the clarification. Sounds sorta like 2 steps forward and 1 back. February 20, 20179 yr Hey guys, I want to bring my older Addons from fsx and p3dv2 to my p3dv3. I read at simmerhome that one can link effect, texture folder from fsx to p3d and just adding the scenery in the scenery library. Just do so with fsx and v2.5 one year ago. My question now is it also possible to link from fsx and p3dv2 to p3dv3 or is there any other way? Read that one should install the addons with the installer into the "highest" flightsim. Any advice here? Developer www.facebook.com/Crossfeed-Design Phil
