October 26, 201510 yr Hello all, Just wanted tio ask, and maybe ther is a real commercila pilot out there, what would be the most realistic cloud setting in ASn to select for Airline operation. Obviously we are governed by how much we can set in the sim due to processing power but what I would like to know is what is seen from a cockpit in the real world, in the sim if you set 60 miles min draw then you get a sudden edge and then clear so not that good IMHO. So if anyone can enlighten me that would be great. Thanks All Mark
October 26, 201510 yr min surface vis 0 and max about 30miles max high alt vis no need to go higher than 80-90 miles cloud draw distance you can put 10 miles higher than the high alt visibility setting. Also if you fly in the USA/Canada then uncheck the prevent CB option in the cloud settings and anywhere else check the box.
October 29, 201510 yr Interesting, thanks for the tips! What about the cloud settings in FSX, I always believed ASN to override everything, but I read somewhere that it has an impact. Secondly, the last paragraph intrigues me, why the difference in USA/Canada? Cheers,
October 29, 201510 yr Secondly, the last paragraph intrigues me, why the difference in USA/Canada? The rest of the world has a habit of interchanging CB and TCU... so the option is included to prevent thunderstorms from being generated at a station where, in reality, there are only towering cumulus clouds in the area. In the USA/Canada, if CB is included in the report, a thunderstorm is most likely occurring.

Cheers, In the FSX menu, ASn adjust the visibility and draw distance through their program, but make sure you put the cloud detail slider to max, and you can check disable wind and turbulence effects on aircraft also in the fsx menus as asn manipulates that through their own program too. In the ASN settings if you find you are getting lower fps with a lot of cloud cover, turn down the cloud layer option from default of 5 to 3 or 2 if you have to, but only a last resort. Everything else in ASN can stay default. Maybe turn down turbulence effects if your addon airplane is having trouble keeping heading and speed when it's bumpy.
October 30, 201510 yr Commercial Member Hi, I assume by cloud cover you mean cloud draw distance. This is actually controlled by ASN itself and you can set the low and high limit of it. For example you can set the minimum cloud draw distance to 60 and the maximum to 130 and this way ASN will attempt to vary this based on the actual fps load. For example when on ground on a (or while approaching) high detailed airport, ASN will drop this to 60 to preserve somewhat your frames. When flying low, you don't need more than that anyway. In contrast, when flying at FL350 ASN will automatically increase it to 130 (if the "cloud load" is not too much). You can see in ASN debug window the actual selected cloud draw distance (CDD) in real time. Just make sure you avoid extreme values (e.g. 200), because this may cause memory issues (sometimes manifesting as disappeared clouds) Kostas Terzides
