Intermittent breaks in radio comms between CoPilot and ATC

Featured Replies

I have had RC v4.3 for a couple of years, with no problems, and I think it is a fantastic program.  However, over the past few weeks an intermittent problem has become more frequent.

Last night, at the start of the flight  EDDK to EDDM, at the Holding Point of R14L the pilot acknowledged " Line up and wait, but there was no command from ATC to line up.

After a time, the Pilot acknowledged "Climb FL230", but I didn't hear ATC giving the command to climb.

A little later on ATC said "Contact Frankfurt Centre 119.07". Pilot contacted the Centre with Flight Number, but there was no reply from the Centre.

Later on ATC said "Contact Frankfurt Centre on 130.95. There was no acknowledgement of the message from the Pilot.

A little later, without any command from ATC, the Pilot acknowledged "Climb to FL250". On pressing keyboard keys for "say again", ATC gave the command "Climb to FL250.

I can hear AI and Chatter ok, and most of the time the 2 way radio messages between my aircraft and ATC are normal.

This is not spoiling the flightsim experience too much, but I wonder if anyone can tell me what is wrong. BTW, the pc sound is ok and not breaking up.

My thanks in advance for any help.

Strange one Andy. Check your voice sets and Controllers selected. Select all of them bar any you have as Pilot voices.

Also let RC autotune your COM 1. Be sure in RC Display Text is disabled. It sounds like a system performance issue or audio conflict. Can anything be interfering with your keystrokes to RC?

Ray and Ron

Thank you for your replies.

I've had the same voices since I began using RC.

Controllers;  Yourself, John Burgess, Laurie Chriscole, Geri Jackson and Graham Jackson.

Pilot and Co Pilot Dean Barry.

All Chatter pilots.

I'll do as you suggest when I fly tomorrow.

Ron

RC always autotunes COM 1, and RC Text is disabled. Dont think anything is interfering.

I could always re install if all else fails.

Thank you both for your kind assistance

Kind regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

if all else fails then a reinstall should fix the problem. Keep us informed please.

Hi Ray,

I did as you suggested, and selected all controller voices, with the exception of pilot/co-pilot. I'm pleased to say that all comms worked fine throughout both flights tonight.

As I already said, the problem was intermittent, but I hope the problem is now resolved. I am a retired electrician and intermittent faults could be a pain..now you see it, now you dont :search:

Many thanks for your assistance.

Kind regards

Andy

Hi Andy,

Good to hear things are working again. I suspect a file may have become corrupted so reselecting and saving the controllers fixed it.

After a period of a couple of months, during which time the comms problem all but disappeared, it's back again. The problem is really  now spoiling my simming experience. I know the trouble is not due to Radar Contact v4, otherwise there would be many others having the same issue.

A couple of nights ago the trouble was particularly bad, with frequent " I say again" messages from ATC to climb, descend,  or fly heading..

I have paused virus protection Kaspersky and Malwarebytes whilst using FSX, and tried a different keyboard in the hope that these actions would resolve the issue.

The difficulty is not limited to any particular aircraft or route.  I have selected all controller voices, but still no difference.

I have REX Weather Architect, Texture and Soft Clouds. ORBX Europe, North and South California. ORBX Vector. PMDG, QW, Level D, Majestic Dash8, Just Flight Twin Otter. I have listed these add ons just in case there may be some possibility that the problem may be somewhere therein.

OS is Windows 7.  FSX Gold Edition

Incidentally I did have this problem very occasionally with my previous pc.

Ooops, almost forgot to say that I have re-installed FSX and Radar Contact on  my present pc.

Ray and Ron previously offered assistance, for which I was very grateful.

Kind regards

Sounds to me like you've altered the default Deviation values. Open General Options and check they are:-

15 Heading

300ft Altitude

15kts Speed

I haven't altered the default values Ray, however Speed is 10kts. Heading and Altitude are 15 and 300ft resp. as you stated.

As per my first post, problem sometimes starts at the holding point.

Andy,

Try setting Otto to do the comms. CTRL+Shift+K. See if you get the command and response.

If that fails suggest you generate a log and send it to JD at the address in the pinned help topic.

Ray,

Thank you for your reply. I'll try setting Otto to handle comms, hopefully over the next day or so.

Ray,

Unfortunately, Otto handling comms did not resolve the issue. I'll try generating the log as you suggested, then send it to JD.

Thank you for your assistance once again.

Kind regards

Okay Andy. Keep the logging as short as possible because it gets very large very quickly.

As soon as you get the problem stop RC and zip up the log.

To stop RC without losing the log before closing your FS flight alt-tab until the RC standalone window owns. The start button changes to quit. Exercise that to close RC so you won't have to abort it with the task manager which will not save the log.

Go into the RC folder and rename the .log file to something meaningful including the date to make it unique so it will not be overwritten. Then zip it up and send it in.
