Wondering out loud.

 

​My P3D keeps crashing randomly without warning while in flight with my Trip7.

​The last few flights the navdata hasn't been upto date fresh install since 3.1 (lazy)

 

With that in mind, if I planned a PFPX flight with say the 1513 data, but I was using the original shipped ND could the sim crash when it gets to a point that no longer exists because the trip 7 cant handle it, or would it just ignore the point that's not there and carry on any way?

 

​I'v updated  the navdata now so I might not ever find the cause. but none the less I'm going to strip my sim back to nothing and see if I can find the cause of these random crashes. sigh.

I don't think the sim would CTD but I don't think T7 would carry on along the route planned. After that I believe it would maintain the heading that it was flying to the valid waypoint.

You should be checking the event viewer to get a little more information about the crash, might be helpful.

If your PFPX flightplan contained a waypoint not present in your older FMS database, the FMS would have given you an error message when you initially entered your flightplan. If that did not happen, you can safely assume that all of the current flightplan waypoints exist in the older Nav DB.

 

The problem you experienced is probably not Navdata-related.

I kind of thought it wouldn't be, as IIRC older aircraft would just place Fix 1 fix 2 into the FMC.

Tho I have reinstalled now, currently at 370 on test flight number one on a new 3.1 install with nothing but the trip 7 installed.

Just click on the Windows Button in the lower left corner and Search for Event Viewer and when Event Viewer comes up in the results click on it. When the viewer comes up allow it to gather the data (maybe 5 seconds), click on Windows Log and then click on Application.
