Been flying FS heavies and now looking for a change of pace

Featured Replies

Most of my flying to date in FS has been in airliners of various types and involved flying A to B across continents or oceans. However, I'm looking for a change of pace. I'd like to spend some time getting to know one particular area and aircraft type.I'm looking for an area that will have some interesting scenery or landscapes with good mesh and some detailed airports. Likewise the aircraft must be fairly detailed and "realistic" but still be fun to fly. I'm not looking for a huge geographical area, but one large enough to take me some time to explore. I'm not too keen on photographic sceneries, but I might consider one if it were exceptionally good.Does anyone have any suggestions for scenery/aircraft combinations that I might consider - payware or freeware?Cheers,Nick

Nick

Nick,I am not sure what you have been flying, but there surely is plenty of challenge for you. Have you tried the PMDG 737s or the Level-D? Have you tried FS2Crew or FSPassengers for added realism? Have you tried an Airbus? Or try the Flight1 ATR-72, which is completely different to fly than an airliner.Have you tried flying with an VA? Try flying with MidconAir - they are probably the most realistic VA around. Or in Europe, try British Airways Virtual?Generally European areas seem to be a little bit better supported than the rest of the world, when it comes to different aircraft. Check out SimMarket or Aerosoft for some great add-on sceneries.Hope this helps!

A great area to fly is the Philippines.Ver Walter Gulfan has done some fantastic sceneries, along with other guys from philskies.net.Average one hour flights - you can use any aircraft you wish.Good VFR weather if you wish. And all the scenery is free on this website.Actually for free scenery, this is a bookmark you need:http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.php

The Pacific Northwest of the US, British Columbia and up into Alaska, from the coast inland to the Rockies is a great area. The scenery is diverse and varied -- mountains, rugged ocean coastline, islands, fjords, forest, large lakes, mature rivers, gorges, dams, you name it -- with a nice mix of large airports (Seattle, Portland, Vancouver) and smaller airfields, many of which are a challenge to fly into. FSGenesis has some good 38.2m mesh and landclass for the area and UltimateTerrain USA/Canada also has scenery enhancements. For aircraft, either the aeroworx Beech B200 King Air (http://www.aeroworx.com) or the DreamFleet Beech A36 (http://www.dreamfleet2000.com). Both are highly detailed and of excellent quality.

I got hooked on flying in New Zealand for a while, now I'm back to the US again. Anyhow, there is so much good freeware scenery for NZ and you'll find some very interesting terrain and approaches there. Also Air New Zealand has all kinds of aircraft to choose from. I've flown my LDS 767, my PMDG 737, my F1 ATR, and as soon as PMDG fixes the stutters with their 747, I will be flying that also in ANZ colors.Jeff

Try Misty Fjords and Ultimate Terrain Alaska/ Canada in the Carenado C182 RG or Aeroworx B-200, or one of the Bill Lyons Amphibs like the Grumman Goose.

You want to get to know an aircraft well, that can take you anywhere in the world but also into some of the finest of the low-level VFR scenery, realistically? Why, there's only one. The DC-3. It's her 70th anniversary on December 17th this year, and she's going strong.Over at www.dc3airways.com we have nearly 1400 pilots on our roster and you'll find at that site everything you could ever want to know about the DC-3 in enormous detail. Several of our active pilots are, or were, real world DC-3 pilots. There are nearly 200 repaints of the default DC-3 available, and many add-ons to make this into a really nice aircraft to fly. The bees knees, of course, has to be the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum R4D-6/DC-3A package, which is being continually updated for users and is shortly to see more developments still. Go to www.maam.org to find it.We regularly have 15-20 pilots having a blast in multiplayer, three or four times a week. Remember what they say ... the only replacement for a DC-3 is another DC-3 ...MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Don't forget the Beaver!

fly at KSMO or KPTK (KSMO at night)

I'm looking for an area that will have some interesting scenery or landscapes with good mesh and some detailed airports. Likewise the aircraft must be fairly detailed and "realistic" but still be fun to fly.For an interesting aircraft, you can try the Shockwave P-51. Very detailed, and very realistic, (For FS2004) It is payware. You can check it out here. www.shockwaveproductions.netTo see what it's like to fly the real thing click on my site below!!
