remove bloat from new gaming laptop

Featured Replies

My desktop remains my system for FSX.

Bought a cheap gaming laptop (under $600) which should run FS9 OK.

Comes with lots of bloat installed (unnecessary programs. utilities).

What are considerations for removing some it?

Is there PC programs to help do this?

What about warranties: If you change the new laptop configuration,

that will probably void the warranty, I would have to reinstall the bloatware?

Any tips or tricks, advice?

Thanks.

I have used PC Decrappifier on several new PCs.  It is designed to remove junk that comes with new computers.  Last I checked, it was free. It should  not affect your warranty.  I hope this helps.

I would be careful. On my daughters old laptop I accidentally removed something it needed. I had to visit the manufactures web site to reinstall it.

So I would say yes, get rid of the bloat, but Google what you are deleting first, to make sure you don't need it.

Thanks, I will use PC Decrapifier when the laptop gets here. Their front page had the 50 programs most often recommended to remove and about a third of them started with the letters HP!

"Last I checked, it was free." Looks like is going to be a very good program but you didn't need to say it was freeware. It HAS to be free with a name like that. I can picture a business executive gets a knock on the office door and employee comes in to suggest a name for the new software. Not going to impress the boss. Somehow PCD doesn't have a polished sound to it :)

LOL..  They do tend to install a lot of stuff. Not all bad, but a lot of stuff, as a lot of manufactures are doing.

I have never tried the decrapifier, But go to uninstall programs and you will see a lot off things to get rid of, google for help, most things should be able to be reinstalled from the manufacture if needed.

You will be able to run FS9 just fine. My 6 year old laptop did just fine.(finally sold it and upgraded to skylake)

Thanks for the tips.

We used to post system specs here in the signature tag line, but the Avsim sysops had us stop doing that. So I have to guess how good a system someone has who is posting their experiences.

Yeah I wish they would bring that back, at least give us a line or two for some detailed info would be nice.
