  1. Very nice. You've at least got me thinking about P3D. I've tried FSX-Steam Edition which was a waste of time. No live customer support. I just might go for P3D. Thanks: Jim Elder
  2. Yair: I have upgraded to windows 10. I have even put windows 10 on a 10 year old dual core machine. My point is this: NEVER change two major factors at once. Allow one to get thoroughly settled before changing the other. What you propose probably will work, but might need tweaking. One step at a time. Best of luck: Jim Elder
  3. This places me between the proverbial rock and hard place. I am recovering from a crash of Windows 10 and the Windows Store is not too attractive. I downloaded FSX-SE from Just Flight and had a terrible experience. Steam had only mechanical customer support, and involved over 30 mechanical emails to crutch it for another couple of months. As I only paid $7.49 for it, I deleted it. I don't feel like going round 3 with Steam. Where to next? P3D or X plane ???????? All the Best: Jim Elder
  4. Fielder: I have used PC Decrappifier on several new PCs. It is designed to remove junk that comes with new computers. Last I checked, it was free. It should not affect your warranty. I hope this helps. Jim Elder
  5. Angelo: I use the Saitek yoke with the throttle which came with it, plus a second Saitek throttle which plugs into a USB port. The yoke can be powered with an A/C adapter and act as a USB hub. I also run a second powered USB hub for three Saitek panels. They all work fine in FSX DVD and Steam editions. Maybe running two Saitek USB throttles confuses your system. Best of luck: Jim Elder
  6. I emailed Carenado with a question about their Cessna 182 and received a prompt, courteous, and valid reply. I didn't need a forum. Thanks: Jim Elder
  7. Humpty Dumpty: Your problem is probably caused by FSX-SE uses files in other folders than "steam" I believe some are in C:\users\(name of user)\appdata\roaming. The best bet is to see whether you can install it on the laptop from your steam account. It's too complicated to install manually. Don't fall off the wall: Jim Elder
  8. Genbrad: I recently bought FSX-SE as well as upgrading to windows 10. I had a problem with the compatibility of my Saitek panels. I contacted Saitek / mad katz and downloaded a new panel driver/add-on. The download updated both the boxed and the steam versions. Also, I deleted the FS9 driver from the Saitek folder. Now, both versions are working OK under windows 10. When I launch the steam version, I am asked to OK the launch of the Saitek add-ons. I hope this helps. Jim Elder
  9. As I tell the dealer when I go to buy a car, and they ask me how much I plan to spend: As little as possible! (my Scottish ancestry at work) Same for FSX! Jim Elder
  10. I have this problem once in a while when FSX has been running a long time and several flights have been started. Since this happens when I'm testing panels or textures on the ground, I usually ignore it. My suggestion would be to save your flight and restart FSX. As fshobby said this is probably due to an overload. I hope this helps. Jim Elder
  11. Paul: Thanks for your help. I am not familiar with replying, and sent my thanks to the administrator. I appreciate the time that you took to post your reply. Jim Elder
  12. A question: The $5 is very reasonable. My concern is that FSX-SE will affect my present CD installation of FSX. Are my concerns justified? Can I have them both on the same machine? Any replies appreciated. Jim Elder
  13. I have had startup problems caused by a corrupted logbook file. I have a logbook editor which works outside of FSX; I leave FSX and look for weird late logbook entries. Fixing the entry fixes the problem. Good Luck. Jim Elder
  14. Another possibility: Spray contact cleaner also has some lubricant in it. This might make the switch easier to turn. I have not tried this on the rotary switch, as mine is easy enough to turn. I have used contact cleaner on balky throttle potentiometers, with good success. Good luck: Jim Elder
  15. My firewall and AV don't appear to affect FSX. Shutting them off is like leaving the front door unlocked while playing pool in the rec room. Jim Elder
  16. Boeings and Cessnas use yokes. Shop around for the yoke/throttle quadrant. You might see some discounts. If you plan to fly military, get the stick. Jim Elder
  17. Oxana: I second what Mr. Hernandez aid about using contact/tuner cleaner on the offending pots. I had a jittery throttle for my number 1 engine. A trip to Radio Shack and a couple of squirts of the cleaner saved me from having to buy a new throttle quadrant. Best of Luck Jim Elder
  18. This sounds like a "controlled leak". Regardless, I will be glad to see some action, and I hope a 64 bit version.
  19. Jim: Thanks from me too. I always leave this site more educated than when I entered.
  20. Just a word to the group: Before you throw away a Saitek throttle, try taking the cover off the unit and using a little tuner cleaner(available at Radio Shack) on the variable resistor. Work the lever back and forth. My well-used throttle became stable again. Keep up the good work!
  21. I had a similar problem installing SP2 for FSX. This took place several years ago. I would get part way through the installation, and then it would roll back (not installed). After much phone discussion with the FSX technician on the help line, they essentially gave up. They send me a copy of Acceleration, which can be used in place of SP2. Don't use both at the same time. This approach has worked for several years. I hope this helps you.
  22. I remember sub logic flight simulator for the commodore 64. I thought that was old!
  23. I've done some work on cockpit panels with version 9. I saved them as .bmp's at the highest available .bmp resolution. It should work elsewhere.
  24. I've run into some knobs which require you to left click the mouse to turn left and right click it to turn right . Hope this helps. .
