Undecided between "Saitek X52 Pro" and "Saitek Pro Flight Yoke System"

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

My G940 went down the drain when my throttle started to fail horribly, I got a refund and now I'm at the crossroads.. again..

How is the yoke? Is it as big as the pictures on the internet make it look like or is it smaller? I'm asking because I'd need to move it out of the way when not flying. Same for the throttle. Oh and about the throttle, the knobs are removable on the one that comes with the yoke right? Can you assign flaps and spoilers to the throttles axes?

How does the yoke feel? Is it reliable (as in durable)? I'm pretty scared of the joystick market after my G940 failed..

I'm on the edge of buying either the X52 Pro or the Saitek Yoke.. just not sure yet. The X52 would mean a very versatile stick while the the yoke would make Boeings feel awesome and everything else a bit more awkward.

I'm decided on getting the Saitek Combat Pedals, since I've not seen bad reviews much, it's just that i'm really uncertain between these two controllers.

Help is appreciated!
John

I have both and I am very happy with them. You get what you pay for and they represent very good value.

I bought both of mine used but that can be a mine field. I was lucky got them for little or nothing.

Option 1. get bought

Option 2. Get the one that will be appropriate for the majority of the flying you do. If most of the Aircraft you fly have a yoke get a yoke. If most of the Aircraft you fly have a joystick get a joystick.

hello

i have been using a combination of the saitek yoke and a saitek x52 throttle ( the saitek yoke comes with a throttle but it failed so i started using the yoke itself and the throttle of the x52 controller i got from ebay ) it suits my flying which is mainly widebodies . so if you can get a similar setup like mine you'll probably like it mainly cause it has a yoke and a good throttle that is way much better than the ones that come with the yoke itself .

I have the x52 Pro and the Saitek Cessna Yoke and I tend to use the x52 more.  I think the Yoke gets in the way with my small desk setup and the x52 sits to the sides so it is easier to use when not flying 100% of the time.  Be sure to read Avsim reviews for each.  I also have both Cessna pedals and Combat pedals and I use both on two different setups but am using the combat pedals today.

I think I'll get both the more I think about it.

The X52 Pro seems amazingly versatile, allowing me to play other flight orientated games while the yoke will allow me to experience unrivaled realism while flying my precious 777. Looks like it's Christmas all over again.

Both are very good for assigned keystrokes.  Makes handling those big birds a lot easier.

When you get them do this:

All you need is a Car seat form the scrap yard and some scrap wood offcuts.

And get an extra Saitek TQ and do this too:

I used an X52 for years and it served well for combat sims and fsx. I then upgraded to the X65 and am pretty happy with it.

I would suggest the X52 would do everything you need nicely. I've tried yokes (saitek and ch) and to me they feel kind of mickey-mouse.

I found the X52 stood up well to a lot of use over several years and the feel of it was not bad either.

So you're telling me the throttle quadrant that comes with the yoke can have its knobs changed too right?

Yes they can! You could either make them yourself if you are handy and have the equipment or you can like me buy them. I got these a year ago. Google Saitek 737 Throttle Quadrant and you will find the guy who makes them easily enough. They were not cheap! I think I paid about $60 or $70 shipped!

Are they worth it? You beat they are! The trim wheel was a mistake but now that I fly the A2A C172 I use it along with Saitek TPM.

The right controllers are crucial for Immersion, IMO.

Just one more question, is the throttle on the x52 pro equipped with percentage detents or is it smooth all along?

its smooth but when you get up to 80 % it needs more force to get up to 100 %  ( btw it has the percentage detents written on it if you didnt know )

An oblique comment.  The purchase of a yoke also allows you to use it as a wheel for driving sims. Two for the price of one!   BTW the rudder pedals can also be configured as throttle/brake.

The detent can easily be removed. You just open the throttle unit up and remove a small piece of rubber. I guess that will void your warranty, though.

I have and use both the X52 Pro and Saitek Pro Yoke, depending on which plane I fly (stick or yoke in real life).
To be honest, the X52 Pro does have a slightly higher quality feel than the yoke. The yoke feels a little plasticy and has some seams and sharp edges. Both are great products though. If you fly mainly airplanes with yokes (Cessna, Boeing etc.) get the yoke. If you mainly fly airplanes with sticks (fighters, Piper Cub etc.) get the X52 Pro. If you fly both but can only get one, I would go with the X52 for the slightly smoother, higher quality feel.

None of both. The Saitek Cessna Yoke has been a great improvement for me from the Pro Flight Yoke. Don't forget the Cessna yoke has twice the travel (180 degrees in total) which is great for GA planes but it also matches up precisely with Boeing. The extra travel also allows you to make the yoke in sync with any aircraft you want, while the PFY is simply way too sensitive. The internals of the CY are also different and better, the yoke is smoother and preciser. The throttle quadrant is quieter and also smoother.
