Running P3D over Google Maps

Featured Replies

Good day to all. I'm rather new to flight simulators, but have really been enjoying my Prepar3d v.3.1 running on Win 10.  I thought it would be be really cool if I could fly over actual Google Maps images and terrain, truly mimicking the real-world, or at least as close as possible.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.

Giorgio

You're not the only one who thinks that, I remember in the back of my mind seeing something on TV about it. I think there's a company trying to use Google Maps for this kind of thing. As far as I'm aware there's no way to do it in P3D. To be honest, I doubt it'd even look that good anyway. You can get pretty close with Orbx products and some add on Mesh that has a better resolution than the default. Or there's always VFR Photo scenery, but I've never thought it looks that great under 3000 feet. I'm really happy with Orbx Global with Vector and Open Land Class.

FSEarthTiles and a good terrain mesh.

Can somebody recommend a better place to upload images to?

Remember, Orbx is more about Imaginative LandClass than photorealistic...as evidenced by their SCA....don't get me wrong, the Autogen along with artistic renderings makes SCA a winner for me, but photorealistic, it is NOT...and their Vector Product, runs a wayyyyyyylonnnnnnng third or forth to UTXUSA/EuropeV2...see my home scenery flying out of my far Southeastern Kentucky, ADE Airport, K69 and surrounds with UTXUSA V2 for the proof of my pudding. It's in KNOX County, KY (available here in the library)

....UTX even shows the dirt road and creek in front of the Farm House....WHILE Vector, admittedly a global product, overreaches itself, does not, as a result.

Now, COMBINE TileProxy OR MegaScenery 4K...WITH custom Autogen, AND UTXv2, and I am sold...and Dyin' happy.
