October 4, 200520 yr Does anyone know of any other scenery packages for the New York area besides Megascenery? I tried out Megascenery and I was kinda dissappointed. I know Aerosoft has a nice looking package but it basically only covers a small area (Manhattan). Thank you.
October 4, 200520 yr I have the NY Megascenary (wish..they had a mega city that goes with it) and the Aerosoft Manhatten (which is awesome) and I have Flight scenary Providence RI scenary.I fly between RI and NY. Its pretty good. Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter

Its pretty good. The Aerosoft scenery definitely looks great but it just covers Manhattan and a little bit around it. What I did'nt like about Megascenery was the fact that it modifies your FS9 settings. In particular it messed with the autogen feature. Flying with Megascenery made everything look almost like a barren wasteland with an occasional tree here and an occasional building there. I know many folks don't like FS9's autogen too much but I guess I kinda got used to it and I wanted it back.

I'll have a look tonight in MegaSceneryNY and see if the autogen is disagreeable.

I'll have a look tonight in>MegaSceneryNY and see if the autogen is disagreeable.>That's right but that is the area in which I do a lot of flying. I've looked at other Megascenery packages like the Northwest package. It really looks great but then I think about it messing with the autogen and possibly other settings and I become hesitant. It's taken me so long to tweak FS9 to where I really love it so these days I'm nervous about disturbing that harmony.
October 4, 200520 yr The PNW package is amazing to say the least. I also own NY and Northern Cally. I run them with autogen and it looks great. On a side note, the biggest problem with the MS packages is if you run with ETT turned on it makesd for lots of problems with blurries and long load times. If your flying the big birds then these are not for you. I fly most GA and props so I don't go above 5500ft usually where you don't notice ETT being off as much. Any higher and it looks like as someone else said once "oatmeal".If you own FSCUIP then you can set the max vis to your liking which helps the ETT problem. It is also more realistic to have a limit to your vis, it almost always like that in real life.XP Home SP2Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 4x512MBLeadtek 6800GT 256MB (77.72)SB AudigyCH Products Yoke/Pedals USBSee you in the fence...CYYZ Al Stiff
October 4, 200520 yr I'm still a big fan of the Megascenery and VFR USA products, but I've also found a combination which produces very acceptable scenery for the rest of the US:Ultimate Terrain+FS Genesis landclass+38m Mesh.UT provides a huge improvement to cities, waters, roads, railroads etc. However, the landclass does not improve land usage data. FS Genesis landclass (with the compatibility patch for UT) takes care of this bit and makes for much mroe varied forests, farmlands etc. and removes much of the checkerboard effect of having just one repeating texture tile for miles upon miles. With the compatibility patch, you also get the improved city scenery from UT. Finally, a 38m mesh provides the needed elevation detail for a true 3D effect. -

The load times are just awful.I enjoy flying GA too but I've recently become very addicted to the PMDG747.

I've been thinkin about FS Genesis too. O lord! Obsessive compulsive add-on disorder:)
