Help CTD AWhen Loading Select Aircraft, etc. Screen

Recommended Posts

Please help.

I have WIN7 64 bit Acceleration. My FSX was working fine yesterday. Last night I tried it and FSX crashes as soon as the Select Aircraft, Time, Weather, etc screen comes up. I have tried letting FSX build a new fsx.cfg.  I renamed the logbook.bin and let it build a new logbook with no success. I am not running any third party addons. I have done a scannow and am not missing any system files. Here is myAPPCrash list:

I don't want to do a repair as I have modified the default planes, panels, etc. and have hundreds of planes.  It appears that the faulting module is ai_player.dll.

I have done nothing with any AI, flightplans, etc.

Thanks.

I have done nothing with any AI, flightplans, etc.

According to page 28 of the updated version of the AVSIM CTD Guide (link in my signature) -

AI_Player.dllrelated to AI and the module that controls your AI (a commercial AI program or the default).

  • Could be something wrong with an AI model or object. If you have MyTrafficX or 6, you can disable AI in the Scenery Library to see if this fixes the problem.  If so, then this is the problem (a simple investigative technique).  If you have another AI program installed, then disable that program to see if the program is causing your crashes.
  • Problem has been seen occasionally in the Seattle area with FTX/Orbx Pacific Northwest. This was fixed and you should check the FTX/Orbx forums and search for AI_Player.
  • Caused by freeware airports in the area that has static aircraft or their own AI aircraft and flight plans.  Disable the add-on airport and see if problem is gone. If you have any FSDT, Flight Beam airports, do not disable them. They are not the problem.
  • Some have fixed the problem around UK2000 EGKK by modifying the AFCAD option from “Airline Specific” to “Generic” but it results in airlines not parking at the correct terminals.

Added:  I would also remove the uiautomationcore.dll from your main fsx folder as it has been known to cause crashes too especially if it's the wrong version.

Best regards,

Thanks Jim. I have no addon AI programs. It is not at Seattle as it crashes on startup. I don't have any FSDT airports. I have not added any scenery or AI for a while. Regards, Bob.

Shows the errors red from Depends when looking at the ai_player.dll.
Can anyone help me please. Bob.

Remove the uiautomationcore.dll from your main fsx folder.  Most likely a wrong version or not compatible with FSX.  If you are having issues with FSX crashing when you right click on the VC and select an option (at least 20 times) and the uiautomationcore.dll solved this crash, then put it back after testing to see if removing it gets rid of the ai_player.dll.

Regarding the files in red, the msvcr80.dll belongs to Microsoft Visual C++2005 w/SP1.  Your crash report indicates you have the proper version.  But, Microsoft Visuals are there to make sure your program was installed correctly.  When you throw a computer hack like the uiautomationcore.dll into the mix, then, you have truly messed up your installation of your simulator.  I have never used the uiautomationcore.dll and my FSX/Acceleration has run smoothly since FSX was first released.

Not sure why your "depends" program says it cannot find msvcr80.dll or any of the other files as your crash report clearly shows they loaded properly.

The ai_player.dll error will come up even with the default ai program.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Jim. I have had the UiAutomationCore.dll, version 6.0.5840.16386, installed for years with no crashes. It is the version that a lot of other users have used to eliminate the menu select crashes. I removed it and FSX still crashes when the weather, location, time, aircraft screen tries to load. I can see momentarily some text that says No, and some other text, in the top left hand side of the screen before it vanishes and FSX crashes.

I just did a complete scan of my C:\ drive and I do have a msvcr80.dll but no DCOMP.dll. I do have an IESHIMS.dll.I did a Google search and it seems that Depends is an older program and does find errors that are not really there.

Is DCOMP.dll required for FSX to run? Could you, or anyone else, please do a scan of your drive to see if you have a DCOMP.dll.

Regards, Bob.

It is not on my computer. I have Windows 7.  It is not in my FSX or P3D directory.

Hi Jim. Thanks. I appreciate it. I Googled it and some say it's in the Windows\Sysrem32 folder on their computers. I guess it is not my problem if you don't have it on your computer. . Bob.

I was able to see the message at the left top of the select screen before it disappeared. It says NO TITLE.

Does anyone know what would cause this message? Thanks, Bob.

Hi Jim. Thanks. I appreciate it. I Googled it and some say it's in the Windows\Sysrem32 folder on their computers. I guess it is not my problem if you don't have it on your computer. . Bob.

Appears it belongs to Windows 8 only - http://www.nirsoft.net/dll_information/windows8/dcomp_dll.html

I do not have it installed and it has nothing to do with FSX.

Did you ever run the System File Checker (page 14 of the AVSIM CTD Guide).  It scans your system for corrupted or missing files and, if any are found, it replaces them.

Hope someone finds a fix for your issue!

Hi. Jim. Thanks. In my original #1 message I stated:

"I have done a scannow and am not missing any system files."

So that is not the problem.

If you have Acceleration can you please tell me your version of the ai_player.dll. I have 10.1.616370 (FSX-X Pack 20070926-1421). It is 256kb.

The dcomp.dll came up as a missing dll in Depends which is wrong. It is not needed. So much for Depends!!

Do you have any thoughts of why it momentarily says No Title. Does yours do this before the window fully opens?

Regards, Bob.

I could see what version you have in your crash report.  It is the same as the version of the FSX installed.  I have the exact same version as yours.

Your problem is definitely with an AI aircraft you might have modified.  I have done hundreds of searches using Google researching the cause of the ai_player.dll.  So, my probable causes above are from the whole flight simulation community on every flight simulation website.

You state you have modified several default aircraft/panels and have "hundreds of planes".  I suspect an issue somewhere here.  If you modified an default AI aircraft or an object belonging to one of those aircraft, this probably caused the problem.  My recommendation is to backup your whole fsx directory, backup the scenery.cfg, and the folder containing the fsx.cfg and any dll.xml (just copy the folders to a temporary directory on another drive or DVD), then do a repair installation.  I would prefer you completely uninstall Acceleration first and then FSX and make sure no residuals are left over and then reinstall.  But a repair is simple.  You just have to remember to run the repair on FSX and then run the repair on Acceleration too.

The key to any repair (besides maybe fixing corrupted files) is the fact you will have a new fsx.cfg and scenery.cfg.  They are known to be the problems in most crashes but I doubt it will fix an ai_player.dll crash as that is AI related.  If you had an AI addon like MyTraffic, then it would be simple to disable My Traffic in the scenery.cfg and see if that fixes the problem.  You have to investigate.

Is there any program like scannow for Windows that will scan Acceleration for missing files? I know that the repair function will scan and fix any missing or corrupt files. I don't want to do that until I have exhausted all other methods.

I noticed that I have 3 versions of SimConnect in my winsxs folder. (10.0.60905.0 for the RTM, 10.0.61355.0 for sp1 and 10.0.61637.0 for Acceleration. Is that right? I don't see any of them in the Control Panel, Programs and Features. Is that right? Is there any way to check my Simconnect files since I cannot run FSX?

Sorry for all the questions.

Thanks for all those that have tried to help me. I appreciate it. Bob.

Hi Bob,

why not checking your Windows  checkpoint/restart list ? If you have a checkpoint from a couple of days ago, just give it a try and fall back.

And you should have a complete image save from your system for this kind of situations. Have you ? Even if it is 4 weeks old it it may be better to fall back to that as going with a re-install of FSX  etc.. Who knows what else is corrupted.

Hi. Thanks.

I am going to try the restore. Will it only completely restore all of my C:\ drive and FSX as it was at the restore point?

Will it try and restore any other drives that I have? I don't want to change any of the other drives that are working OK.

I don't have an image. I did buy an external USB 2Tdrive and will create an image if I get it all working OK.

Regards, Bob.
