Localizer won't engage

Featured Replies

On approach to all ILS runways I can't push the VOR/LOC button after obviously being lined up properly and the solid pink lines and diamonds appear.  CMD is engaged, flight director is on, course is set properly, ILS frequency set into both NAV radios.  My PFD is showing some indications I haven't seen before... FAC and G/P.  Tried just pushing the APP button but no joy there either.

Suggestions?

Suggestions?

I'm having a hard time believing it's all ILS runways if you're getting FAC and G/P. Screenshot please?

Before I start another flight, what do FAC and G/P indicate.  Can't find it in the manuals.

Jeff

I think FAC is final approach course and G P is glide path. Seems you selected an RNAV approach and not an ILS.

Ah-Ha!  Could be.  I'll check on next flight.

Thanks

You probably tried to shoot an ils approach to a runway that doesn't have ils in FSX. In the top left section of the PFD you should see the frequency and identifier of the localiser, which I am sure you didn't.

The 737 is a pretty nice machine, you can fly a visual approach and still use approach mode, in which case you will get the indications you saw. So FAC for final approach course, which means extended centreline for runway chosen in FMS. and G/P (not to be mixed up with G/S) which means the FMS calculated its own 3 degree glide path to the runway, but this glide path is not based on any type of beacon! So both these modes are purely to assist in a visual approach.

You either tuned the wrong freq. or the ils doesn't exist in FSX.

I think you're right.  Let you know after next flight.

FYI, Kyle Rodgers, a real world pilot, PMDG beta tester and moderator for this forum, has an excellent video series on approach procedures on YouTube. Great stuff. Covers precision and non precision approaches. Worth the 20 or so minutes for the knowledge he shares in it.

Or he could be selecting APP before the ILS signal is valid, too far out for example.
