August 19, 20169 yr Commercial Member Quite a few folks have had difficulty getting the US English language pack and speech engine installed. Part of the problem is that after you install the language pack, you have to do an additional step to install the Speech engine. Here's a link to a site that does a pretty good job of explaining the process. http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/change-cortanas-voice-windows-10 Step 11 is the one where you install the Speech Recognition Engine. BE SURE TO DO THIS STEP. Steps after 11 set the new language as your default and are not necessary in order to use Pilot2ATC. Hope this helps some of you. Dave
May 24, 20179 yr David, Sorry for the bother, however, I'm having trouble with P2A recognizing other Windows voices. I completed the instructions in your 2016 post and the only voices that controller tab that are listed are David and Zira the 2 standard Windows 10 voices. I have a number of other voice (i.e. English Canada) added that show up in Settings and in fact will play with other Windows programs. Any ideas? Would I have to download P2A again for the program to pick up these extra voices? Thanks in advance Ed
May 24, 20179 yr Author Commercial Member The voices must be SAPI Desktop voices to work with Pilot2ATC. Mobile voices, which do work with Cortana, for example, will not work with desktop applications like Pilot2ATC. Check the voices to be sure they are SAPI 5 Desktop voices.

I can I verify that the voices are SAPI 5 ? Bill Bill N7IBG

October 14, 20178 yr I have been installing as many of the English language packs as possible to see how many voices I can get that are compatible with Pilot2ATC. So far, I have only found 3 that are the SAPI5 versions. The English (United States) gets you David and Zira, and the English (United Kingdom) gets you Hazel. All the other English language packs that have voices are the Speech to Text Mobile voices that are not compatible with Pilot2ATC. I may bite the bullet and actually pay to buy one or two. I really want at least 4: Center, Approach, Tower/Ground/ATIS, and Co-Pilot. Ultimately, it would be great to have separate voices for all the functions, but the voices start at $30 a pop!!!

If you did have the money for those redicules prices where would you go to get them? Thank You Steven Pow
October 15, 20178 yr Author Commercial Member The voices don't have to be English voices, just desktop SAPI 5 voices. For example, if you install the Language Pack from Spain (Espana) then you get a female voice (Helena) that has a very thick Spanish accent. Here's a link to a Microsoft site listing the language packs that include voices. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/How-to-download-Text-to-Speech-languages-for-Windows-4c83a8d8-7486-42f7-8e46-2b0fdf753130 Dave

NextUp sells voices from Nuance, Ivona, AT&T, etc. Ivona and Nuance are the best sounding. Nuance is a bit cheaper than Ivona. http://nextup.com/purchase.html
October 21, 20178 yr Since I moved to W10, I'm unable to use speech recognition with P2A or MCE. I followed the above tutorial to switch from native French to US-English voice settings. I'm able to speak with W10 Cortana without any problem, but not with P2A. I tried 2 different microphones (USB or direct), I ran also the MCE wizard. With "Grammar help", after pushing practice I see the following popup which seems to be correct: Then I push PTT, speak the selected sentence, and P2A answers with: "Speech not Recognized. Try pressing the Replay button to listen to your speech." When I press Replay button, I'm able to hear correctly my sentence. Any help is welcome. October 21, 20178 yr Author Commercial Member That does look correct. Since the replay sounds good, then the microphone volume is probably OK also. Sometimes a bad call-sign can cause problems with Grammar Helper. Try phrases like "Say Altimeter" that do not require a call sign and see what happens. If that works, change your call sign to a GA call sign, Mfg-Beech,TailNumber-N431VB. I know that will work.
October 21, 20178 yr When I try "Say Altimeter", the best result I see is "Say;" despite the replay is correct... October 21, 20178 yr Dave, do you recommend to set the input device (microphone) to "Exclusive" mode in Windows? checkbox 1- "Allow applications to take exclusive control to this device" checkbox 2- "Give exclusive mode applications priority" Roland MSFS my local airport release: LFOR Chartres-Metropole MSFS Plugins RAAS (registered FSUIPC7 required) MSFS FX for Objects & Landmark in France (Steam and smoke) and Aerial coverage for French nuclear sites
