I get this too but more so with clouds. Is it related to Flight1's Flight Environment?Blue skiesKevin dca-iad_sr_767-2.png

Delete fs9.cfg, see if it changes?Do you have d3d9.dll and .ini file in your FS9 folder. Delete also.Try default clouds as mentioned above, or other set from FE, if using that.No more suggestions, sorry.

>as you can see its all blurry and there is a 'line' going>through the scenery!>>>>You've got a bad case of the blurries!!Check your Terrain settings in your FS9,cfg file and set it something like this.[DISPLAY]UPPER_FRAMERATE_LIMIT=25TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=150[TERRAIN]TERRAIN_ERROR_FACTOR=100.000000TERRAIN_MIN_DEM_AREA=10.000000TERRAIN_MAX_DEM_AREA=100.000000TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21TERRAIN_TEXTURE_SIZE_EXP=8TERRAIN_AUTOGEN_DENSITY=5TERRAIN_USE_GRADIENT_MAP=1TERRAIN_EXTENDED_TEXTURES=1TERRAIN_DEFAULT_RADIUS=60.900000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_RADIUS=40.500000TERRAIN_EXTENDED_LEVELS=13121214Note: The max default and extended radius setting that FS9 looks at is9.900000 The settings I have was set from advise from someone else. They niether help nor hurt so I left them alone. The extended levels settings were set by FS some how. The max though that FS uses though is I believe 4, but again the higher number niether helps nor hurts, so I left that alone. The Bandwidth_Mult is the rate textures load. The default is 60 but can go upto 400. This is a system specific setting based on it's performance. Too low and the textures won't load fast enough, (You'll see blue streaks when you pan view) Too high, can increase or introduce stuttering, so you'll have to experiment to get the right setting for your system. The max_vertex_level depends on the type of mesh you have. If you have no addon mesh scenery (ie:FSGenesis) set this to 19. If you have any 38.2m mesh addons set this to 20. and if you have the 9.6m mesh set this to 21. After doing all this, you may still get momentary scenery drop outs (especially in high dense scenery areas like New York!), but they should be less severe. Also if your visibility setting is too high, you'll notice an abrupt end of textures before the horizon. Especially with NVIDIA cards. My old ATI seemed to handle this better!! To greatly reduce or eliminate this problem, you should reduce the sight distance in the display weather settings. This can also be done by selecting the Apply vis limits in the visibility section of FSUIPC, but I believe that function only works if it is registered.

How about doing the obvious thing and checking that the "Extended terrain textures" option in checked.

"If you notice, I included that setting in my post, you need though to also do the other things I have posted for it to really make a difference."I don't agree. Extended Terrain Textures being left unchecked has the most profound difference and creates exactly the type of situation the thread's author saw. If that option isn't checked, checking it will greatly improve the situation. Also, your post called attention to changing the value via a .cfg hack. Extended Terrain Textures can be changed without hacking the .cfg directly from the MSFS display options screen. -John

"Also if your visibility setting is too high, you'll notice an abrupt end of textures before the horizon."When I recreate flights in the desert SW, I regularly have my vis setting between 120-150 miles. I have no abrupt end in textures and I do own an Nvidia card. One thing that can cause the abrupt end is add-on textures that don't match up with the generic, distant scenery MSFS uses for the area outside the Terrain Extended Textures. Another issue that can causes it is "overtweaking" the FS9.cfg settings to create unaturally sharp textures extending to the limit of the Terrain Extended Textures. And another is the day of week/ time of day, which is one of the things I've reduced as an issue with my Soft Horizons add-on. Other authors have reduced the issue as well with both payware and freeware environment add-ons. -John

You'll see these same recommendations posted by others both here, and other FS sites.Edit: In fact there also in the FS9.cfg Care and Maintenance thread which is stickied on top of the forum section sub-section "MS Flight Simulators Tips and Tricks"

I only see this at very high altitude 35000+, on a very clear day at a distance. (I have ASVE so usually there is some clouds or haze that mask this.) I have my VIS set to 120Miles also, but use the setting in FSUIPC to apply VIS limits. I tried rebuilding the FS9.cfg (Without editing it) and it didn't help. Here's an example . The first shot is my normal configuration with VIS limits set in FSUIPC. The second one is Same setting but the FSUIPC setting unchecked. The third shot is with a new FS9.cfg file unedited with the extended textures checked in FS. Altitude is 35K+ http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135156.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135157.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135158.jpg

"Yes John, your right, the extended terrain setting, can be set in FS9, but that doesn't make the the other changes necessary to optimize texture loading"I agree, but the author did not post about that issue--his is directly related to extended terrain textures not being selected. The other information is good to have, but the immediate issue is not using that option, which for many systems is turned off by default during the initial MSFS install.-John

Yep, those shots are a good example of the issues add-on textures can cause with Microsoft's "generic" distant scenery. Attached is a shot with 120NM vis, from FL350 (that King Air is really pushing it, light load). I am using default scenery, but also, my Soft Horizons add-on. What that allows is a more natural blending of the textured area and the distant scenery so I don't get a "hard" horizon line in the distance and the transition from textures to distant scenery isn't as harsh. I don't know if anyone with add-on textures has tried it, however. My card is a lowly Gef 4200/TI but it serves me well!-Johnhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/135159.jpg
