Suggested Scenery Add-Ons

Featured Replies

Hi folks,I'm a bit overwhelmed by all the scenery add-ons and could use some advice. I have a copy of Mega Scenery New York (Volume 1) and Mega Scenery Northern, Ca (Volume 2). I have not installed these as of yet. I see lots of other products to enhance the view out the window and would love some advice on what products to buy. Also, is there a set order in which I should install these products? Well I find (in my own humble opinion) that the photo real scenery is best for low and slow flying (say in a single or a twin). I love the MS titles and own all of them, as well Vauchez's Flight Zone Rhode Island is excellent (a combo of photo real and airports). If your in a heavy going 200kts the phot stuff just can't keep up and you end up with soup for textures. If your into the heavy's stay with airport scenery (fly tampa stuff is about as good as it gets) and Ultimate Terrain (the best bang for the buck as far as scenery enhancement goes). My fav is the Dreamfleet Baron flying in MS PNW with some Geo Render add-on airports and Fly Tampa's KSEA. Of course I love Holgers Mysty Fjords as well. It's like UT with lot's of small eye candy added over a very large area. Makes you say "neat!" when you see it.XP Home SP2Asus P4P800-SE Intel 3.0GHZDDR 400 D/C 4x512MBLeadtek 6800GT 256MB (77.72)SB AudigyCH Products Yoke/Pedals USBSee you in the fence...CYYZ

I'm on the opposite end, I find the photoreal MS titles to be blurry during low and slow flight and think (IMO) that they are only good if you are into flying the heavies. Best to just install and see for yourself.I do recommend the Flightscenery titles, Rhode Island never looked so good and the upcoming Portland looks outstanding! Georender sceneries are fantastic as well as Misty Fjords if you fly GA. Ultimate Terrain is a great addon, but if you plan to have lots of addon scenery installed, you'll find some issues using them, mines uninstalled. All depends on what kind of flying you do.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International

If you like flying in Canada, you can check out my stuff at the website below. Or, search in the lib for "canuk". :DAnd best of all it's free. Also for great Ontario sceneries check out www.flightontario.comAdam

Altstiff,Thanks for the positive comments. Working on CYCH (Miramichi Airport) formerly CFB Chatham. I'm making this one shareware in an attempt to raise some travel funds so I can go to other provinces to photograph airports. I'll be asking somewhere around $5.00 CAD. If things go well, I would like to head out west. Not holding my breath though LOL. It's very preliminary at this stage, but I may be working on Kelowna, BC as I have a fella who's offered to go to the airport and get pics.FYI, a guy I know is working on Regina. He's a very busy lad with work, but once I get some of my projects out of the way, I'm going to be working some with him on the airport.Adam

Hi, Any chance of Gimli, manitoba? Thanks. Dave

Yeah RI is in my top 3 sceneries of all time. Great for both low and slow "regional" GA flying and also KPVD is a great short hop in a 737 out of JFK or BOS.Perfect for all types of flyers! Plus "liquid" frame rates and stunning detail.

Anything of Simwings..........superb !

My personal top 3 sceneries are...1.) FlightZone1:Rhode Island - Granted, I *LIVE* in RI so I'd have bought it even if it was a steaming pile, but amazingly enough the smallest state in the union has been given the BEST treatement in the sim. KPVD is perfectly modelled, and the performance of the scenery is excepional. 2.) Ultimate Terrain:USA - Nationwide coverage enhancing every aspect of your day-to-day flying. If I didn't live in RI, this would be #1. Lakes, rivers, roads - all precicely placed AND with no appreciable frame hit. The enhanced night lighting adds a sense of realism not seen with MSFS. 3.) FSGenesis terrain mesh for your local area. Nothing beats a realistic representation of the hills and valleys in your primary flying area, and FSGenesis mesh has been a fixture in the mesh business with unmatched credentials. Tie FSGenesis mesh with Ultimate Terrain for the pinnicle of flight realism! If you are not local to RI, I'd first suggest Ultimate Terrain USA. Unless you live in the desert, it will greatly enhance your flying experience no matter where you live and fly. Then I'd add some terrain mesh. These two items will help you build up your scenery collection in layers - you'll have taken care of nationwide terrain and nationwide roads, shorelines, and rivers, then it'll be time to start updating airports! (ahem, kpvd) :)-Greg

Hi Dave,Gimli is doubtful as I live in New Brunswick now.Adam
