February 9, 20179 yr Hi,I'm looking to upgrade parts of my rig to gain more performance. What is the best thing to upgrade, the processor or graphics card or something elseThanks Joe Colehouse
February 9, 20179 yr Joe, tell us more about your present system. Perhaps it is not worth to upgrade one or two of its compnents but rather change the complete system. Jürgen Martens, DK7HN
February 9, 20179 yr Author I am not 100% sure on the specs exactly but I have a; i7-4770k @ 3.5GHz GTX 750i 8GB RAM 1TB SSD 2TB SSD Windows 7 That's all I know of the top of my head, I don't really want to get a new rig when I'm happy with RAM, hard drives and the other components. Thanks Joe Colehouse

February 9, 20179 yr how many monitors you running? been doing a ton of testing and one result was 4k resolution mostly maxed out with orbx as2016 etc was my test gtx750ti card gave 27fps and my 1080 founders edition gave me 29. That GPU is more than capable (if its the TI) of running FSX maxed out on one monitor. Ive seen it with my own eyes! Russell Gough SE London
February 9, 20179 yr Author Ok i thought it was the graphics card. I do run three monitors but only only is for flightsim. Joe Colehouse
February 9, 20179 yr Ok i thought it was the graphics card. I do run three monitors but only only is for flightsim. Do you set a fps limit in fsx or in nvidia control panel? setting it in NCP can be disastrous for multi-monitors off a single card from my experiments is all. Russell Gough SE London

February 9, 20179 yr Ok good.. Thats one less issue to be dealt with. All monitors same size/resolution? Tried nvidia surround or are you using 3xfsx windows undocked and moved to extra monitors ? Russell Gough SE London

The other two are for PFPX etc Joe Colehouse
February 9, 20179 yr Ah ok so only one for rendering the sim then. All my testing has been with fsx recently for the record although the 2 sims do share common elements. I built a 'beast' system end of last year for a video workstation and ran fsx testing on it for stress reasons. The cpu died last month - i7-6900k - had to RMA. Using my 5yo backup system I was stunned to find with similar loads I was getting similar performance. Probably as new build was not a gaming machine and built for stability not raw speed but still.. These 32bit sims seem to only respond to raw cpu clock speeds. For major performance increases that is. Russell Gough SE London
