FS9 precipitation

Featured Replies

Is it just me, or does FS9 produce very poor precipitation effects? Rain and snow both fall way to too slowly!and more importantly, at slow ground speeds, the precipitation still falls straight down until I reach speeds over 40 kts. In reality, the apparent angle of falling precipitation should immediately begin to tilt diagonally when I start moving. The faster I go, the more tilt there should be! Same thing should happen if there is any wind! Instead, I have rain or snow falling with me until I'm half way down the runway at 50 kts, then it suddenly falls nearly horizontal. Are there any settings or files that can me modified to help?If I remember correctly, precipitation angles and falling speeds were much more realistic in FS2000 / FS2002. This is not a big deal for me, but I was curious to know if anyone else noticed this.Thanks,- Eric

It's not just you. The rain and snow effects in FS2004 are horrible. I usually try to avoid those conditions because they just take away from the immersion factor too much.I really hope the next version provides much more realistic rain and snow.James

You should have seen the fantastic rainstorm I flew though as I was shooting the ILS into Toronto Airport this evening with a 450 foot ceiling and turbulence. Oh, I forgot, the rain was courtesy of Active Sky 6.........

You certainly don't get droplets at 180 knts..Here is a shot I took a few weeks ago going thru rain in my Baron at 180 knts vs. Fs with the Dreamfleet Baron at 180 knts--no droplets in the real shot-and the angle of the rain is completely different...http://mywebpages.comcast.net/geofa/pages/rxp-pilot.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/136991.jpg

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

Certainly!! The drops bounce off quicker than the eye can see.Nice picture.Thank Goodness for FS9.cfg to get rid of the droplet effect:>> WindshieldPrecipitationEffects=0 <<- Eric

I'm waiting for a brilliant addon developer to release a way for the snow and rain to "stick" to the ground, slowly building up, allowing poodles of water to form, or snow drifts. ricardo

Yeah, it doesn't form drops, it forms streaks in reality, especially in singles since the proppellor slip stream accellerates it a little more. It does the same on my car winshield at freeway speeds when I have Rain-X applied. >building up, allowing poodles of water to form, or snow>drifts. >>ricardoIs this for when it's raining cats and dogs? Hmmmm, never seen a poodle of water before; I thought it was the poodle MAKING the puddle of water. And as has been said, Active Sky v6 WILL give you some pretty realistic rain, snow or whatever, even poodles I s'pose.:D

Sorry couldn't resist.Actually I totally agree on the puddles and snow raises the immersion bar a bunch, just search through my old posts! ;)

How'sabout you just upgrade to v6 for free, like all the rest of the ASV customers did? :) -Greg

I flew into Boston about 10 minutes ago. AS6 was cranking out some really black and blue skies on approach, along with rain and turbulence. I got on the ILS and was hand flying it as usual on my 767-300 and as the Minimums sounded at 200 feet AGL, still nothing. Wished I had used autoland on this one, but decided to try to land anyway. At the 50 foot call I saw some lights peeking though the overcast and fog. I got the plane stopped just as the red runway end markers came into view.. Phew,,,, does that Active Sky 6 make it look real!!!!

Well darn! Didn't know I could. So it's comin' down as I type: thanks a bunch, Greg. To be honest - I've been wrapped into DreamFleet's 727 for the last four days or so: this one will take a couple of months to learn. (it was a goooood holiday!) ASV is pretty darned good - a heck of an improvement, but I have no idea what's coming in six, as I've not even had a chance to explore five yet. Anyway - thanks again, Greg - and thanks Active Sky! Great product.pj
