Mega Airport Frankfurt

Featured Replies

Holy cow, I just watched the Mega Airport Frankfurt video at aerosoft's website. LOOKS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!! Moving vehicles, trams, service vehicles, the ground textures look great.I'd be afraid of the frame rate hit, man I wonder if it's a slide show. Would love to see some U.S. airports with this sort of detail though.Wonder if FSX airports will look this "populated".

What video?I'm looking on their website and don't see any video listed.

Nevermind, it was on the boxed version from www.aerosoft.com instead of the Online download shop.Let me set your mind at ease. I get absolutely no frame loss at the airport. Here's a small video I made of an approach into there.http://chicago054.server4free.de/jeff/movi...toFrankfurt.wmvIt's worth it to get this airport if you fly that way much.

Downloading the video now. Glad to hear there's not much frame rate loss, it'd be nice to see more of this quality and populated airport. If I could get over the huge expense for the PMDG 747 freighter, I'd like to fly cargo into Frankfurt.

Wow, what a great video, talk about immersion, coming in over that freeway on short final, with auto traffic, that may be the most realistic representation of MSFS I've seen yet. What are your computer specs? Pretty high I'd guess, but I didn't see much jumpiness at all.I'm imagining this is hopefully what FS10 will look like.Wonder if other airport designers could incorporate this "populated, busy look".

just the road traffic would do me....... steve

FlyTampa - Chicago Midway has moving traffic as well. Not sure if the other scenerys by them have moving traffic, but Midway is a true gem. On my old clunker I get a very minimal frame hit.[hr color=#000000][table border=0" width="98%" id="table1" height="4" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="2][td width=500]Jason CYOO - Formerly MYNN[br /]General Aviation Fan[br][br /]

>Let me set your mind at ease. I get absolutely no frame loss>at the airport.>I have a hard time reconciling this statement with your video, I see a lot of stutter. There is *always* a performance loss associated with large custom airports - I would like to witness a miracle one day when this would not be true - but until such day arrives I know that such statements are just hyperboles.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

You can't base it purely on this video. Whenever I record a Fraps video in Flight Sim, I get between a 50 to 75% framerate hit. Fraps is a real horsepower hog, unfortunately. :(

Ah, I see. Fraps is a program commonly used to record FS videos in a format readable by Windows Media Player. It's a seperate program that runs in the background and saves whatever is going on on your screen frame-by-frame, and creates an AVI file. Most demonstration videos you see of games on the net are made with it. Here is their website. http://www.fraps.com/I believe you are referring to videos made within flight simulator using the Record function, the results of which are dependant on your system specs. Fraps video performance is dependant on the specs of the individual who recorded it, and the parameters they've set within Fraps.Hope that clears things up. :) I just finished watching Jeff's video. Based on what little jerkiness I could see, I can almost guarantee that actual performance on his system is silky smooth, and the jerkiness is just the hit Fraps takes when recording. Am I correct in that assumption, Jeff?Best regards,

I don't know. Surely if there is a method to make it look smooth, why not use it? Just look how FlightScenery folks make their promotional videos - they are super smooth. And there is never any hint in the discussion that follows their videos that this is somehow a "fake" smoothness. As a matter of fact it is often emphasized that this is exactly reflects the type of performance you get when you play this game.Michael J.http://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_744F.jpghttp://www.hifisim.com/images/asv_beta_member.jpg

Sorry about not responding, I forgot about the forums for awhile, was busy flying ;)To clear things up:I use FRAPS. When I use it, it eats a lot of frames. I cap my FPS at 25 and I easily maintain 25 FPS at this airport with full settings on.Why don't I make 'silky smooth' videos? The way to make them smooth is to do 1 of 2 things:1) Turn down all settings. This will make the scenery look like crap, but sure it'll be smoother.2) Offload the recording to another piece of hardware, such as a digital camcorder or a DVD recorder. I own neither ( I will own a digital camcorder within a month though ;) ). Once I can offload the recording, I will always get silky smooth recordings.Trust me when I say this scenery is ground-breaking technology.... FlyTampa's scenery rules, absolutely, but when you have their animated objects moving around, it is a serious performance hit. This airport gave me 0 performance hit. Not putting FlyTampa down, just saying...
