I was doing a virus SCANNING ON MY #2 COMPUTER (WHICH HAS fs2004 on it. I USE IT TO "TEST fs ADD-ONS TO SEE IF i LIKE THEM before I install them on MY MAIN fLIGHT sIM COMPUTER and it took a "hit" and found a virus called, "crypt.win32" and it was on a file named, "SEAMAX.gau" I went to my FS2004 gauge folder, and there it was. For the last few months, in the back of my mind I was thinking, I don't remember this computer running this slow and when I removed the file from the gauge folder it immeadiatly went back to its normal speed. ( On slower computers, when you double click on your "C" drive, a "little flashlight comes on and shines around until it founds the "C" drive; it does NOT do this any more.. I LOG every thing I do on my computers and I found the entry, dated, 10-26-05, "Installed CLOUD 9 in FS2004... It's too toy like... used GOBACK to uninstall". So, if your machine seems like it has slowed down, check your FS2004 gauge folder and see if you can fine the "infected" gauge. The program, NOD 32, found the virus. I use avsim for about 90 % of my flight sim down loads, but it could have come from anywhere, I don't remember. jerrycwo4

LOL. Actually, it is always bad, if the flashlight shines on the C: drive and an indication that all your private data is being transmitted to 3rd party spam lists. But it could have been worse, if the flashlight would have shined on you "My Documents" folder, so it probably not that bad. Good luck!;-)Pat

Uh...Er...You're basically accusing Cloud9 of pushing a virus through their "Fly the Lakes" package? :( :-eek

This is old news - did you check the Cloud9 forums? There is no virus in the gauge, it is a problem with Nod32.

Nod 32 is worth what it costs in my opinion. ;)

Well, if you have GOBACK installed you sure don't need a virus to slow down your system as it tracks each and every file. This is a reasonable tool for an office computer but surely not for a gaming machine that needs all the performance it can get.Alex

:-lol :-xxrotflmao :-lol

I agree Alex. GOBACK should not be installed on a gaming machine but I think he said this is on his testing machine and not on his main FS system. Also, Cloud9 makes a lot of outstanding scenery products (IMHO) and wonder which one he removed. Looks like he's slamming the whole Cloud9 site as he's giving an impression they put a virus in one of their products. As I recall, Jerry also "slammed" (my personal thought) RC4 last week and has since apologized to JD. I think he's railing against products that gave him issues and wants to somehow tell the FS community. I really like the products I purchased from Cloud 9 (Rome and Aviano AFB scenery). I think he should have contacted Cloud9 first and confirmed the virus with them before writing this thread. Cloud9 should have then informed the FS Community. What product is next Jerry? IMHO, this thread definitely belongs in the hardware or chat forum.Jim Young

Guys don't always blindly trust AV software. Take mine for instance -- I am running Zonealarm Full Security Suite. It swears up and down that all of my FS installers - especially PSS downloaders, arwe infected with a worm. For some REALLY off and wierd reason folks are saying this has to do with Winzip being installed. Either way I used Norton, McAffee and EZ Trust to scan the same files. All came up negative. Diagnosis? Zonealarm kicks butt on my system, but it is indeed incorrect when scanning my three FS partitions.Removing that gauge, making your computer run faster, is really wierd. It could have been a virus, or it could have been just odd programming or a corrupt file. Corrupt files are the worst - -I had lots of em -- and a corrupt file that is legit can sometimes wreak more havok than a virus.Good to see you got your computer fixed, but I also have all of Cloud9's product and none of them have slowed me down a bit :-)
