P3D V4 Addon Organizer randomly changing sceneries priority

Oliver,

I did just as you said...open scenery library in P3D, hit "okay"...AND...P3D did it's library rebuild thing, and rebuilt the indexes, then went through it's reload, then I was right back where I started at the default scenario WITH NO ERROR MESSAGE!

Whatever situation you're describing, that caused problems for others, that is obviously a different situation than what I am using, because what I did CAUSES NO ERROR MESSAGE!

Well, it does happen for me every time. Key is to edit the scenery.cfg manually, not with P4AO. So there is no way for me to decide which simulator is correct and which isn't. As long as this behavior isn't fixed on my end (and for the other users having the same issue) I will not touch P4AO in this regard. Whatever I do will be wrong for someone. The issue with the "incorrect" layer order message has been acknowledged by LM and I hope that a fix will be included in P3D at some point.

TBH I didn't expect P4AO to last that long. There should be professional/payware solutions out by now.

Oliver,

I'd be fine with AO as payware. It will be interesting to see what LM does in this regard in 4.1...honestly, I'm not holding my breath...I'd have more confidence with ongoing updates to a payware AO.

Seems like the fix is there, according to the 4.1 changelog. Guess we will see what we will see.

Fixed erroneous ordering error that would display when opening Scenery Library with certain add-on sceneries installed

Too many moving parts in this whole P3D add-on system to make P4AO payware. That would probably be more of a support request generator than a source of income.

Oliver,

Their statement doesn't instill confidence..."certain add-on sceneries" isn't the problem.

That's funny...you're probably right, that a payware addon manager would be more trouble than it's worth for the developer. I was just trying to give you encouragement, hoping maybe you'd bite at the suggestion.

I have been writing code for 35 years now, and I was a professional developer and project manager with a very large company for many years. Risk management is part of the game, and the risk here is at lot of work for a constant financial loss. An addon like this might sell for 10€. My rate is 100€ per hour. After the shops took their cut and after taxes, I would have to sell 20 licenses to cover one single hour of support. From experience I would estimate that this addon might sell 200 copies per year - if there wasn't the freeware version already out there, and if there weren't the pirates. 10 hours of support handling for a whole year is nothing, it would be many many more.

Oliver,

I can certainly appreciate your position. In any case, thanks for a great tool in P4AO.

Considering P3Dv4.1, if you decide to make a change in how AO handles mixing .cfg and .xml, would you post to this thread please.

Cheers

Hello Steven,

with 4.1 the error message is gone.

Please check the Lorby-SI website, P4AO 1.17 is ready for download. This is more of a prototype, but it should do what you require.

For the record: it would renumber the scenery sections sequentially for 4.0 too, but that would lead to the above mentioned error message.

Best regards

Oliver,

Thank you for the early Christmas gift. I installed and tested 1.17 and it does exactly what we've discussed in this thread.

Kind Regards
